An hour on a yacht out of Dubai Marina, which is the cheapest way onto this coastline by boat and enough time to see the length of it.

You pass the Marina towers, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai, the Palm's outer crescent and the Burj Al Arab, with the whole skyline stacked behind. There is an air-conditioned lower lounge with free wifi and open deck above it, so the hour works in summer as well as winter — which is more than can be said for the open speedboats.

A light breakfast or a barbecue can be added, and this is where to read the option carefully: the base hour includes the cruise and a virtual guide, and the food is a chosen extra rather than part of it.

Captain, crew and life jackets are included.

Two practical notes. Hotel pickup is not included — the marina berth is easy to reach by taxi or metro. And the sunset sailings are the ones that sell out first, so if that is what you want, book further ahead than you think you need to. Morning departures are quieter, cooler and considerably better for photographs of the towers.
