A private yacht taking up to twelve, which is the size at which chartering stops being a luxury and starts being the cheaper option.

Split twelve ways, a private boat with a captain, crew and deck space frequently costs less per head than twelve tickets on a shared dinner cruise — and instead of a numbered table you get the whole vessel, the route you want and the stops you ask for.

The coastline is the usual one and it is genuinely worth it: Dubai Marina, Ain Dubai on Bluewaters, the Palm's crescent, Atlantis and the Burj Al Arab on its island.

There is deck space, shade, a saloon and a bathroom on board. Bringing your own food and drink is normally permitted, which for a group makes a substantial difference.

This is the booking for a birthday, a family group, or a set of friends who would otherwise be split across two tables on a shared boat.

Two practical notes. Hotel pickup is not included — everyone makes their own way to the berth. And sunset sailings go first, particularly at weekends, so book those well ahead.
