Full description
This is the half of Dubai that existed before the towers, and it is small enough to walk. Al Fahidi is a lane system of wind-tower houses in coral and gypsum, built by pearl merchants, and it stays cool at street level in a way the new city does not.
The walk takes in an Emirati heritage house, the textile souk, and then the crossing that makes the tour: an abra across Dubai Creek. These are wooden boats that have run the same route for decades and they cost one dirham for locals — the point is not the saving but that you are on the same bench as people going to work.
On the far side are the gold and spice souks. The gold souk holds tonnes of stock in open windows and the spice souk is where the guide earns their fee, because knowing which saffron is real matters. Street food is eaten as you go rather than sat down.
Practical notes: this is a walking tour of roughly three hours, so wear shoes you can walk in, and it is far more pleasant between October and April. Shopping time is built in and there is no obligation to buy anything.

Loved our tour. Ziad is the BEST tour guide and we highly recommend him. Ziad was friendly, informative and taught us alot about the history, the culture and about the Islamic religion/customs. We throughly enjoyed everything about our trip.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic tour — 10/10! Absolutely fantastic experience and one of the highlights of my time in Dubai. Our guide, Fesal, was exceptional and speaks perfect English and Italian. He explained the history of Dubai, Islam, its traditions and culture in such an interesting way and answered all our questions. We experienced the traditional markets, Gold Souk, spices, tea and delicious local food. I learned so much while really enjoying myself. What impressed me most was how caring Fesal was. It was around 42°C, and he constantly made sure everyone was okay and had water. Professional, knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely caring. I highly recommend this tour and especially Fesal. If I could give 10 stars out of 5, I would!
our guide was fantastic with the information he had and the way he communicated it. I learnt a great deal. the food was great, it would be nice to have a little more or time the last samples earlier. Great tour, would highly recommend.
Fesal was FANTASTIC! Thank you so much! My son and I loved the the tour. It was informative, fun and Fesal’s passion for Dubai, its culture and history meant he bought this tour to life! He’s entertaining and nothing was too much trouble. The food and drinks were delicious and riding on the Abras across the Creek is a MUST! Book this tour to learn about where Dubai started and to where it is now, and their plans for the future. Miss it? You’re missing out!! Ask for Fesal. Enjoy. Thank you again sir.
