A sealed glass bio-dome in City Walk holding a working tropical rainforest — over three thousand plants and animals arranged around the largest man-made, life-sustaining indoor tree in the world.
You enter at the canopy and walk down through four levels, which is the right way round: the canopy has the sloths, the birds and the free-flying bats, the mid-levels have the reptiles and the insects, and the flooded forest floor at the bottom has the fish and the caimans. Animals are largely uncaged within the dome, so what you see depends on where they happen to be.
It takes about an hour and a quarter, and it is one of the few attractions in Dubai that is genuinely better for young children than for adults — though the tree itself is worth the ticket on its own.
Two practical notes. The dome is kept at rainforest humidity, which is a shock coming in from air-conditioning and makes camera lenses fog for the first few minutes; give them time rather than wiping them. And feeding sessions and animal talks run at set times through the day — ask at the desk when you arrive and plan around them, because they are the best part.

What a fantastic place! I loved the experience. This is place offers an escape into the rainforest and a safe place for conservation work. Animals are comfortable around humans, and humans enjoy seeing species that they may never have the privilege to see in the wilderness. The animals seem healthy, well looked after and happy.
It was unexpectedly great! I thought it would just be a few plants, fish, and animals in cages of different sizes, but I was mistaken. Almost the entire building is their real home; they are the true landlords, and you are the guest
