A reserved seat on the Heritage train over the Hai Van Pass, which is the best stretch of railway in Vietnam.
The line runs along the coast between Da Nang and Hue and climbs the Hai Van, the Ocean Cloud Pass, on a shelf cut into the mountainside. For about forty minutes the track hangs above Lang Co lagoon with the sea directly below the window and the mountain wall on the other side. Jeremy Clarkson called it one of the best coastal roads in the world on Top Gear, and the railway sits above the road with the better view.
The pass is also a real climate line. It blocks the northeast monsoon, so Da Nang on the southern side is often dry and warm while Hue on the northern side is grey and wet on the same afternoon. You watch the weather change through the window.
The Heritage service is the tourist train rather than the ordinary local one: soft seats, air conditioning, large windows built for looking out.
Book the left-hand side travelling from Da Nang to Hue for the sea views, and the right if you are going the other way. This is a one-way ticket, so pick the direction that fits your onward plan rather than doubling back.
Three and a half hours from city centre to city centre, which is faster than the bus and considerably better to look at.

It was a great trip! Amazing musical performers and the food available to purchase was delicious. It was nice to be able to walk about the train and stretch your legs whenever you needed too. Highly reccomend.
alot of beautiful scenery along the way we decided to take a car ride to hue arrived 9 am $40 spent the day exploring, there is plenty of ride options if walking is not your thing, We walked to train station , took afternoon train back to da nang ,sat in coach 1 left side this train ride is good for all ages,
Incredible scenic train ride! The views through Hai Van Pass were stunning and the whole experience was smooth, comfortable, and well organized. Definitely one of the best ways to travel between Da Nang and Hue. Highly recommended!

The AC was broken. And the Duration was too long since the train was really slow. Other than that it was ok.
