Full description
This is a 3.5-hour experience in Hanoi. It is run by Apron Up Cooking Class, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japanese cooking classes usually build a meal around dashi, the kombu and bonito stock that sits under miso soup, simmered dishes and noodle broths, and then one or two headline dishes: rolled sushi or nigiri, gyoza, tempura, okonomiyaki, or a bento box. Wagashi classes make the seasonal sweets served with tea from sweet bean paste. Most classes run two to three hours in a home kitchen or a small studio, and vegetarian versions replace the bonito with a kombu-shiitake dashi. You eat what you make, and Japanese teachers are precise about technique.
The price covers instructor, Lunch or dinner, Market trip, All ingredients and tools and Hands-on class making 5 dishes. It does not cover Transportation and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Fun & tasty Emmy was a great host: friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging throughout the course. Very nice way to get closer to Vietnamese culture, highly recommend!
Excellent cooking class, delicious meals cooked and shared with a great group of travellers. Chef Vy also fabulous. Highly recommend this activity
It was excellent. The food was delicious and Hazel was a great instructor. She also gave great local restaurant recommendations. Can't recommend highly enough!
Hailey was amazing! She was so friendly, patient, and made the whole cooking class really fun and enjoyable. She explained everything clearly and shared interesting tips about Vietnamese cuisine and ingredients. And, of course, the food was absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend this cooking class to anyone visiting Vietnam. Thank you, Hailey! 🇻🇳❤️
We really enjoyed our class. Hazel was such a great host- the way she shared her knowledge was really engaging. We’ll definitely be making these recipes again
Hailey was great. She helped us every step of the way to prepare our set of pho bo, nem, bun cha, papaya salad, and egg coffee (for a late class, we had the option for drinking chocolate instead of coffee). The steps are surprisingly simple; we thought of Vietnamese food as being this exotic, difficult kind of food to prepare, but taught to make it this way makes it way more accessible. Especially the beef pho: just a two-hour simmer, not some crazy 18-hour broth. We’ll def try this at home, thank you!
Haley was an greatful Guide. The experience was fantastic. Thank you for your service. You are very friendly and funny…
Fun, hands-on class with great food – highly recommend!
What a fabulous experience. Our guide, Vee, took us to the market to purchase the food. She explained so much about not only the food we were purchasing, but the logistics of how food is brought to the consumers. We went back to the cooking school and prepared the food. The organisation was excellent, the education and instruction was excellent and the food fantastic. It’s given me a lot of inspiration to try different foods in Vietnam and to try cooking it myself at home. Highly recommended
Hazel our guide spoke perfect English and was an absolute delight! She took us around the markets collecting ingredients and then back upstairs to cook up a feast. We chose the less popular menu that includes Ban Xeo sizzling crepes, beef and meatball soup, beef rice noodle rolls, chicken banana blossom herb salad and banana coconut frozen dessert - highly recommend! What a fun interactive activity to share together as a family.
We had a wonderful cooking workshop with Hailey 😍 Starting with a walk to local food dealers around the corner, shopping vegetables, meats and noodles. Hailey took plenty of time to explain all kinds of herbs and veggies and after the basket was full, we returned to the cooking place on the second floor and started right away with the preparation of the Pho, following up with Bun Cha meat, the filling for the spring rolls and sliced the Papaya for the salad. After finishing the dishes one after another we were able to enjoy all the food in a restaurant like room on the first floor… of course w
Hazel was a brilliant guide. We learned so much about the ingredients and methods and the food was delicious!
