This is a experience in Hanoi, built around Hanoi Old Quarter. It is run by Crossing Vietnam Tour, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japanese food tours work because the best places are small, unmarked and full of regulars, and a guide who orders for you opens them. An izakaya crawl covers yakitori, sashimi, karaage and the local pours of sake, shochu and highballs across three or four counters in an evening; a ramen walk explains the broths, tonkotsu, shoyu, miso and shio, and the regional styles. Most places seat eight to twelve and tours run six to eight guests for that reason. Vegetarians should say so when booking, because dashi stock is fish and hidden in almost everything; halal-certified options exist but are fewer.

Had a great tour with Olaf - we braved the rain with our umbrella and rain jacket. September in Hanoi is quite wet. On this tour we had beef pho, bun cha (grilled pork w/ rice noodles and lettuce) and fried eel with glass noodles. I was hoping to try the dry pho but I guess they switch things up occasionally- although I think you always get Bun Cha and Eel. Olaf gave me tip on where to try the dry chicken pho. The eel was actually better than I expected. Crunchy and not fishy. The noodles and soup that accompanies them is a little more fishy. We finished the tour with sticky rice coconut ice c
We spent four hours with Hai this evening and had such a great time! He was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable, introducing us to Vietnamese food, explaining the different dishes and showing us the proper way to eat them. We tried several different things throughout the evening, but it was much more than just a food tour - we chatted about all sorts of subjects and learnt a lot about Vietnam along the way. What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon eating our way through the delicacies of Hanoi. Ham our leader was fun, inclusive and explained the dishes perfectly. The pouring rain did not deter us from the adventure. Brilliant.

I loved all of this tour. Baron was our tour guide and he is local to Hanoi and knew so much about the food and the history and the culture. the food was gorgeous and they accommodated us as vegetarians as I did not see in the booking that the tour was unsuitable for vegetarian. Baron ordered swaps for us and everything was fantastic.
