This is a 5-hour experience in Hanoi. It is run by Vietnam Craft Village, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples sit side by side across Japan and the etiquette differs slightly: at a shrine, bow at the torii, rinse hands and mouth at the water basin, then bow twice, clap twice, bow once at the hall; at a temple, no clapping, hands together, and incense if it is offered. Photography is fine outside and usually not inside halls. Zen meditation sessions, zazen, are taught at several Kyoto and Tokyo temples in 30 to 60 minute sittings with the posture explained; a shukubo temple stay adds the morning service and vegetarian shojin ryori. Shoes come off at every hall.

Alex was a wonderful and passionate guide. We started in the incense village, which was his hometown. He shared with us excerpts from his upbringing and why the incense village is his home and why it will always be his home. I recommend the hat making option of the tour as the lady is sooo sweet. We are able to eat lunch in her home as the showed us how the traditional hats are made. The temple complex was amazing and Alex taught us a lot about Buddhism and the history behind the complex.

It was a magical tour, we experienced so many wonderful things. The guide Alex was very informative and kind. He altered the tour to our needs and wishes. I would visit the sites again as well as choose him as my guide. Just great!

Es war ein wunderbares Erlebnis. Wir waren erst in einer Hutwerkstatt und konnten dort auch unsere eigenen Hüte bemalen. Nach dem Besuch im Weihrauchdorf ging es mit dem Boot in dieses großartige Gebiet mit viele Pagoden und Tempeln und wunderbarer Natur. Ein tolles Erlebnis mit wenig anderen Touristen. Toller Guide!!!<3
