Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Ho Chi Minh City. It is run by VIVA VIETNAM, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japanese craft classes are taught by practitioners who have usually done the craft for decades, and they teach it properly: calligraphy begins with how to hold the brush and grind the ink; pottery on the wheel produces a cup that is fired and posted to you weeks later; ikebana teaches the three-line structure of a Sogetsu or Ikenobo arrangement; indigo dyeing and washi papermaking are done in the workshops of the towns that specialise in them. Classes run one to three hours, materials are included, and most welcome children with a parent.

It does not cover Hotel pick-up and drop-off, Personal expenses and Shipping fee, so budget for those separately. Overall it went well. The location was all the way down the alleyway; not near the street. The ladies teaching me were kind and had limited English: Google translate is a must. The shop offers a few different painting type classes and seems popular with locals. I would do it again but would book directly via the shop.
The full experience was something completely new and refreshing, i definitely feel satisfied with the result. and also a good plus that the girls working there were really kind and helpful.
Guides had limited English, needs better explanation. Also instead of photos, real samples should be shown to get a proper idea of what project to choose. An activity list of steps involve would be helpful so one can know what comes next to progress the project. I was disappointed as the English was poor and no Google translate to help me understand the choices and outcome. I am not a good drawer so I should have been given the option to work with texture. I was unhappy with the end result of my work. I would not repeat this workshop.
