Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Hoi An. It is run by Hai An Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japanese craft classes are taught by practitioners who have usually done the craft for decades, and they teach it properly: calligraphy begins with how to hold the brush and grind the ink; pottery on the wheel produces a cup that is fired and posted to you weeks later; ikebana teaches the three-line structure of a Sogetsu or Ikenobo arrangement; indigo dyeing and washi papermaking are done in the workshops of the towns that specialise in them. Classes run one to three hours, materials are included, and most welcome children with a parent.
The price covers Incense-making workshop, Guided by local artisans, Dyeing bamboo sticks, Mixing raw incense powder and Rolling incense by hand. It does not cover Transportation to the workshop, Meals and drinks, Tips and Other expenses, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Such an amazing day with the fourth generation of incense producers. Learning was very fun, and it is not easy so big kudos to all the people who Mae impossible for me to burn incense all day. I learned multiple methods and the different types of incense you can make. If you’re a lover of incense, or even want to keep those pesky mosquitos away, definitely try this experience. The family is warm, welcoming and very patient to teach you how to make incense. One of my Vietnam highlights!
I had a great time learning about incense and making incense in different ways. I got to make incense in molds for the cone shape, I got to roll incense sticks by hand and finally I got to make incense sticks with a simple machine and at the end of the workshop I could take everything home! They also have a small shop at the workshop where you can buy something, but there’s no pressure whatsoever to do so. I recommend this workshop for everyone who wants to learn more about the traditional way of intense making and spend a great hour or two on a half island near Hoi An.

Great! Loved it, really interesting and a multigenerational family of hand made incense. I was ok at racks one, two, I was extremely average and three was fantastic! I left with some of my own work too which was really fun! A beautiful morning 😊
It was very informative and really increased our understanding of incense. We made both incense cones and sticks, and it's a lot harder than it looks! But lots of fun, and we got too keep our creations. I highly recommend this experience.

It was an immersive and relaxing experience. My travel companion and I were welcomed with a smile, and the owner patiently explained the traditional incense-making process, allowing us to try it out for ourselves. Thach was very knowledgeable and passionate and proud about being a fourth generation incense maker. He and his sister were good instructors and patient with my clumsiness. A really worthwhile experience. I wish I’d gone there earlier so I could enjoy the other local crafts like mat making and boat making.
