This is a experience in Sapa. It is run by Sapa Northern Trekking, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japan's outdoors is organised: trails are marked, mountain huts are booked, and the walking routes with history, the Nakasendo post road between Magome and Tsumago and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage in Wakayama, are done in comfortable day stages with luggage forwarded. Cycling tours use the flat river paths and back streets that cars avoid. The summer heat from July to September makes early starts essential in the cities and lowlands, while the mountains are cool. Winter turns Hokkaido and Nagano into ski country from December to March, with the powder that Niseko and Hakuba are known for.

We had an amazing experience on our trek to Lao Chai and Ta Van with our guide Gian. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and thoughtful throughout the whole day, making sure everything went smoothly and choosing the right route based on our abilities and fitness level. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Sapa as the trek allowed us to see the expansive rice terraces carved into the mountainsides. We had a wonderful guide, Giang, who shared insightful cultural background of the ethnic villages. Giang was very kind to make a hiking pole from a bamboo on the spot for my wife to help her go down the slopes. We even got to visit a village house to understand their living environment. Highly recommended this 1 day trek to Lao Chai & Ta Van.
Giang guided us through a fantastic trekking experience across the rice plantations, sharing fascinating insights about the local people, their culture, and way of life. What an awesome adventure. Toan is the man! We had a blast chatting with him about Vietnamese culture, history of the area and life! The hike was beautiful even with the wet weather Toan still made it lots of fun. The lunch was delicious with plenty to eat. Can't recommend this tour enough!
We had a really good time treking around the local villages. The views of the rice fields are something that we'll remember for a long time. It was very interesting to see the whole process of making local hemp and indigo fabrics. Thanks to the small group size it felt much more like a private tour.
