Japan's outdoors is organised: trails are marked, mountain huts are booked, and the walking routes with history, the Nakasendo post road between Magome and Tsumago and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage in Wakayama, are done in comfortable day stages with luggage forwarded. Cycling tours use the flat river paths and back streets that cars avoid. The summer heat from July to September makes early starts essential in the cities and lowlands, while the mountains are cool. Winter turns Hokkaido and Nagano into ski country from December to March, with the powder that Niseko and Hakuba are known for.

We had a very nice trek with Nay. She was considerate and very kind. We learned a lot about the local culture, and stopped for the greatest views.

It was an amazing trip. Our guide Nhu was excellent even in the rains she guided us exceptionally well. Overall route is scenic and wonderful. The cab picks us up from hotel on yime and dropped us back.

Wonderful guide Sai who was just awesome. The pick up from my hotel was on time at 8.30 am, walked down the valley and through the rice fields. She was just awesome with a lot of story telling about her family which was fascinating. Sai was very patient and kind as I was the only person on the tour and being elderly (67 years old) she helped me through the slippery terrain. After 3 hours of hiking, I decided that I was done and wanted to stop after walking for nearly 9km. We stopped at a local restaurant where lunch (included in my price) was offered at 11.30am. I told Sai that I wasn’t hungry
