Full description

This is a 3.5-hour experience in Sapa. It is run by Viet Nam Happy Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Japanese cooking classes usually build a meal around dashi, the kombu and bonito stock that sits under miso soup, simmered dishes and noodle broths, and then one or two headline dishes: rolled sushi or nigiri, gyoza, tempura, okonomiyaki, or a bento box. Wagashi classes make the seasonal sweets served with tea from sweet bean paste. Most classes run two to three hours in a home kitchen or a small studio, and vegetarian versions replace the bonito with a kombu-shiitake dashi. You eat what you make, and Japanese teachers are precise about technique.

It was great talking with Sung and her family. She answered all of our questions about Hmong culture and was incredibly kind and inviting. She also does trekking and told us all about the area so we could know what kinds of sights we wanted to see. I highly recommend this class, especially if you want a great introduction to Sa Pa.

We took Sung’s cooking class today and had an amazing experience. She speaks very well english and got to teach us about H’Mong culture and history. We cooked 8 delicious dishes that we shared at the end. Cooking while being surrounded by rice terraces is the most unique thing about this class that we highly recommend! Thank you to Sung and the whole family for their warm welcome.

We had cooking class with Sung. She was such a calm and very talented homecook, and we learned many new recipies during the cooking class and also met her family. She spoke english well and explaned all the dishes while we we’re making it together. We also got to learn about the culture and how it is to grow up in a village. We will highly recommend this!

We had an amazing time! Sung was AMAZING - she taught us all about her tribe's culture, answered every question we had, and helped us make an amazing meal! Ask her about her being a trek guide! It was great to experience this in the homestay, we really felt like part of the family! We had an excellent time and could not recommend this experience more! Only note: it is a little hard to find for Grab drivers so give yourself a little extra time. But it is well worth it!

The cooking class was amazing. We were cooking with a local family in a beautiful homestay. Sung (and her family) was super nice and friendly, she also showed us a lot more things we can do in Sapa. It was a great experience! :)

Was lovely being welcomed into the family home to cook traditional dishes. Such a unique experience and in the lovely setting in rice fields. I can’t recommend taking this class enough.

I loved learning about the Hmong culture the most. What can be improved: Signage at the corner of the small road.

Der Kochkurs was sehr gut!

Bring a rain jacket, a warm layer from November to March, cash for the villages, and a small bag; homestays provide mattresses, blankets and dinner. Leave the big luggage at your hotel in town.
