This is a 7-hour experience from Sapa, built around Ta Van. It is run by SaPa Native Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Japan's outdoors is organised: trails are marked, mountain huts are booked, and the walking routes with history, the Nakasendo post road between Magome and Tsumago and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage in Wakayama, are done in comfortable day stages with luggage forwarded. Cycling tours use the flat river paths and back streets that cars avoid. The summer heat from July to September makes early starts essential in the cities and lowlands, while the mountains are cool. Winter turns Hokkaido and Nagano into ski country from December to March, with the powder that Niseko and Hakuba are known for.

Pickup is offered from Notre Dame Cathedral and Sa Pa; the exact spot and time are agreed with SaPa Native Tours once the booking is confirmed, and the option you choose sets whether transport is included.

Highlights recommend! This is really a wonderful trip, we went through 3 villages of Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, Ta Van, beautiful terraced fields to flooded and rustic houses halfway up the mountain. With the guidance of indigenous guides. He is friendly, funny, culturally knowledgeable and always ensures our trip easily and safely. I will make the trip again on the nearest occasion
