Full description

This is a 3-day experience from Sapa, built around Leave the Crowds Behind, Welcome to Ta Van and Lao Chai. It is run by Ethnic Community Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.

The price covers 3-day trekking adventure, Guided by a local H’mong expert, Visit to H’mong, Giay, Red Dao, Comfortable homestays with local families and Home-cooked meals. It does not cover Travel insurance, Personal expenses and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Ethnic Community Tours sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Ethnic Community Tours before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Leave the Crowds Behind

Leave the Crowds Behind: Meet your local guide in Sapa town and step straight onto scenic mountain trails heading toward Ham Rong. Off-the-Beaten-Path Views: Trek through Hang Da and Sau Chua, where quiet paths meander through cascading rice terraces, dense forests, and rustic H’mong hamlets. As you gain elevation, take in breath-taking panoramic views over the valley and the majestic Hoang Lien Son mountain range.

Welcome to Ta Van

Cultural Connection: Meet local villagers along the way and gain authentic insights into the traditional lifestyle of the H’mong people. Welcome to Ta Van: Descend into Ta Van Village, a serene valley framed by lush green mountains and golden fields. Check in to your private bungalow and relax after your trek. Evening: Enjoy a delicious dinner featuring local culinary specialties in the quiet beauty of the valley.

Lao Chai

Morning in the Valley: Wake up to the fresh mountain air and enjoy a hearty breakfast at your bungalow. Heart of the Rice Terraces: Follow your guide through the valley toward Lao Chai, home to H’mong communities. Marvel at the dramatic, hand-carved rice terraces that stretch across the mountainsides—vibrant green, golden, or mirror-like depending on the season.

Untouched Serenity in Y Linh Ho

Untouched Serenity in Y Linh Ho: Trek along peaceful, less-traveled trails leading to Y Linh Ho. Cross bubbling streams, pass traditional wooden houses, and witness rural mountain life away from the main tourist paths. Unwind & Recharge: Return to your private bungalow in Ta Van in the late afternoon.

Giang Ta Chai

Culture of the Red Dao: After breakfast, head toward Giang Ta Chai. Trek through forests and streams while discovering the rich culture and vibrant traditional attire of the Red Dao community.

Tranquil Bamboo Forest

Tranquil Bamboo Forest: Walk along narrow, shaded paths winding through a lush green Bamboo Forest—one of the most peaceful and picturesque sections of the entire trek.

Su Pan

Panoramic Vistas in Su Pan: As you arrive in Su Pan, the landscape opens up to sweeping views across the valley below. Take a moment to soak in the scenery and reflect on your 3-day adventure. Wij zijn drie dagen op pad geweest met de leuke gids Chi. Heel veel leuke feitjes van het leven in de bergen. Schitterende uitzichten op de rijstvelden. We hebben genoten!

Most day treks are 10 to 15 km on village paths, steep and muddy after rain, done in trainers or light boots. Local Hmong or Dao women guide and set an easy pace. Bring a rain jacket, a warm layer from November to March, cash for the villages, and a small bag; homestays provide mattresses, blankets and dinner. Leave the big luggage at your hotel in town.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice. Once it is confirmed you get the meeting point, the time and a contact number for the day. If the operator cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.
