This is a 7-hour experience in Sapa. It is run by Ethnic Community Cultural Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Japanese craft classes are taught by practitioners who have usually done the craft for decades, and they teach it properly: calligraphy begins with how to hold the brush and grind the ink; pottery on the wheel produces a cup that is fired and posted to you weeks later; ikebana teaches the three-line structure of a Sogetsu or Ikenobo arrangement; indigo dyeing and washi papermaking are done in the workshops of the towns that specialise in them. Classes run one to three hours, materials are included, and most welcome children with a parent.

Our day Sapa Trek was exceptional! Our guide, Mei, was very helpful and was fluent in english, so we could ask any questions we had about the local villages we visited. We did the tour with our 2 kids, and found it very fun! We passed many local shops on our walk, and had the opportunity to purchase any handcrafted items or fabrics. We walked through corn and rice fields, and learned about the local tribe! After we visited the rice fields, we walked a few km over to where we were going to have lunch, and ate some of the local foods such as rice, chicken, spring rolls and more! The restaurant h
