Die meisten srilankischen Safari-Angebote lassen die Parkgenehmigung aus, und fuer einen auslaendischen Besucher sind das weitere 25 bis 40 USD bar am Tor. Dieses Angebot schliesst sie ein, was beim Preisvergleich zu pruefen lohnt.

Udawalawe liegt zwei Stunden suedlich von Ella und ist der verlaessliche Park. 1972 um ein neues Reservoir angelegt, wurde das durch das Wasser verdraengte Ackerland zu offenem Grasland, sodass die rund sechshundert ansaessigen Elefanten sichtbar statt verborgen sind. Sichtungen sind innerhalb von zwanzig Minuten nach dem Tor fast sicher, was man von Yala und Leoparden nicht behaupten kann.

Daneben: Wasserbueffel, Axishirsche, Goldschakale, Sumpfkrokodile am Reservoirrand, und wirklich gute Vogelbeobachtung mit einem starken winterlichen Zuzug von Zugvoegeln.

Was Sie nicht sehen werden, ist ein Leopard. Sie existieren hier und werden praktisch nie gesehen, falls das der Zweck der Reise ist, nehmen Sie Yala und akzeptieren Sie die dreihundert Jeeps.
