Little Adam’s Peak ist der Grund, warum viele Leute Ella auf ihre Liste setzen, und es ist eine der besten Belohnungen fuer den Aufwand in Sri Lanka: fuenfundvierzig Minuten auf einem meist gestuften Pfad fuer eine Aussicht durch die Ella Gap zur suedlichen Ebene, mit Tee auf jedem Hang dazwischen.

Die Wanderung beginnt am Stadtrand abseits der Passara-Strasse, steigt sanft durch Plantagen auf einem angelegten Pfad, und endet mit einer Reihe von Betonstufen. Sie ist fuer die meisten Fitnessniveaus und fuer Kinder machbar, und die Stufen sind die einzige wirkliche Anstrengung.

Im Morgengrauen zu gehen ist keine Vorliebe. Der Pfad liegt nach Osten, der Sonnenaufgang durch die Gap ist der ganze Punkt, die Luft ist in jedem Monat des Jahres morgens am klarsten, und gegen neun Uhr ist der Gipfel eine Schlange fuer dasselbe Foto. Es ist auch um sechs Uhr fuenfzehn Grad kuehler als um zehn.

Ein Guide zaehlt hier weniger fuer die Navigation als bei Ella Rock und mehr fuer das Gehen im Dunkeln und fuer die Teile, die die meisten Leute verpassen, der Gipfel ist eine Reihe verbundener Huegel, und fast jeder haelt beim ersten an, waehrend der zweite und dritte zehn Minuten weiter und erheblich leerer sind.

Zurueck in der Stadt zum Fruehstueck bis acht Uhr, mit dem Rest des Tages noch intakt.

Ella ist ein Dorf auf 1.040 Metern in den Bergen des Sueden, erreichbar mit dem Zug aus Kandy, den die meisten fuer die schoenste Bahnfahrt Asiens halten, und seine Sehenswuerdigkeiten liegen alle nur wenige Kilometer entfernt: die Neun-Bogen-Bruecke, ein Backsteinviadukt von 1921 in einer Teeschlucht, das mehrmals taeglich von einem Zug ueberquert wird; der Little Adam’s Peak, ein 40-minuetiger Spaziergang durch Teefelder zu einem Kamm; Ella Rock, ein anspruchsvollerer dreistuendiger Aufstieg; und die Ravana-Wasserfaelle an der Strasse nach Wellawaya. Die Morgen sind klar, und an Nachmittagen der feuchten Monate zieht Wolken in den Pass, deshalb finden Wanderungen frueh statt. Tuk-Tuks sind das Verkehrsmittel, und jede Pension kann eines besorgen.

Nuwa our tour guide was very knowledgeable with the surrounding areas, he knew the best spots for watching the sunrise and insta worthy photos!

We did not get water and the guide did not speak English. We could have just got a Tuktuk to drive us there as the hiking route was very easy to follow. The view was great. Nice to be picked up at the hotel.

Der Guide spricht weder Englisch noch hat er Lust zu wandern. Er hat mir gesagt, er redet nicht mit mir. Zudem hat er mich eine halbe Stunde warten lassen, weil er Kaffee trinken war. Das Geld kann man sich sparen.
