Bitte vor der Buchung beachten: Die Abteilung fuer Wildschutz hat die Bloecke 1 und 2 des Yala-Nationalparks vom 14. September bis 15. Oktober 2026 wegen Trockenheit geschlossen, daher koennen Safaris in diesen Bloecken an diesen Daten nicht stattfinden. Die Bloecke 3 bis 6 bleiben geoeffnet, und Udawalawe und Wilpattu sind nicht betroffen; fuer Reisen in diesem Zeitraum kontaktieren wir Sie, um die Safari in einen dieser Parks oder auf ein Datum nach dem 15. Oktober zu verlegen. Udawalawe ist der staerkere Park fuer Elefanten; Wilpattu bietet ruhigere Leopardensichtungen.

Vierzehn Stunden ist die ehrliche Laenge dieses Tages, und er existiert, weil die Strasse von Ella nach Yala beim Abstieg an beiden grossen Wasserfaellen der Region vorbeifuehrt.

Die Ravana-Wasserfaelle sind die ersten, eine breite 25-Meter-Kaskade an der Strasse unterhalb von Ella, benannt nach dem Daemonenkoenig des Ramayana, der Sita angeblich in den Hoehlen darueber versteckt hielt. Diyaluma folgt, und mit 220 Metern ist er der zweithoechste Wasserfall Sri Lankas, der in einer einzigen Schicht vom Steilhang faellt und vollstaendig von der Strasse aus sichtbar ist.

Dann die Ebene, und Yala. Block 1 haelt die hoechste je erfasste Leopardendichte der Welt, zusammen mit Lippenbaeren, Elefanten, Sumpfkrokodilen und ueber zweihundert Vogelarten. Er haelt auch an einem belebten Morgen in der Saison mehrere hundert Jeeps, und beide Tatsachen gehoeren in denselben Satz.

Die Pirschfahrt im Morgengrauen ist jene, die funktioniert, Tiere bewegen sich im ersten Licht und suchen gegen neun Uhr Schutz.

Der Aufstieg zurueck in die Berge nimmt die letzten drei Stunden des Tages in Anspruch. Wenn vierzehn Stunden zu viel klingt, ist die Version ohne die Wasserfaelle drei Stunden kuerzer, und Udawalawe statt Yala ist noch kuerzer.
