Bitte vor der Buchung beachten: die Abteilung fuer Wildtierschutz hat die Bloecke 1 und 2 des Yala-Nationalparks vom 14. September bis 15. Oktober 2026 wegen Duerre geschlossen, Safaris in diesen Bloecken koennen an diesen Terminen also nicht stattfinden. Die Bloecke 3 bis 6 bleiben geoeffnet, und Udawalawe und Wilpattu sind nicht betroffen, fuer Reisen in diesem Zeitraum kontaktieren wir Sie, um die Safari in einen dieser Parks oder auf ein Datum nach dem 15. Oktober zu verschieben. Udawalawe ist der staerkere Park fuer Elefanten, Wilpattu bietet ruhigere Leopardensichtungen.

Yala und Udawalawe liegen neunzig Minuten voneinander entfernt und sind nicht das gleiche Erlebnis. Beide an einem Tag zu machen, ist ambitioniert, und es ergibt aus einem bestimmten Grund Sinn: was jeder gut kann, kann der andere nicht.

Yala Block 1 hat die hoechste je gemessene Leopardendichte weltweit. Es hat auch, an einem geschaeftigen Morgen in der Saison, etwa dreihundert Jeeps, und die Tiere befinden sich in Dornbuschland, wo sie schwer zu sehen sind. Es ist die Leoparden-Lotterie, mit den besten Chancen weltweit gespielt.

Udawalawe ist das Gegenteil. Offenes Grasland um ein Reservoir, etwa sechshundert ansaessige Elefanten ohne Versteckmoeglichkeit, und Sichtungen, die fast sicher statt glueckbedingt sind. Fast niemand sieht hier einen Leoparden.

Also: Yala bei Daemmerung, wenn sich die Tiere bewegen, fuer die Chance. Udawalawe am Nachmittag, wenn die Elefanten zum Wasser kommen, fuer die Sicherheit. Dazwischen bekommen Sie auch Lippenbaeren, Bueffel, Krokodile, und weit ueber zweihundert Vogelarten.

Dreizehn Stunden und zwei Parkgenehmigungen, was diesen Tag zum teuersten auf dieser Seite macht. Er passt zu Menschen, fuer die Wildtiere der Grund sind, nach Sri Lanka zu kommen, und zu niemand sonst.
