Bitte vor der Buchung beachten: die Abteilung fuer Wildtierschutz hat die Bloecke 1 und 2 des Yala-Nationalparks vom 14. September bis 15. Oktober 2026 wegen Duerre geschlossen, Safaris in diesen Bloecken koennen an diesen Terminen also nicht stattfinden. Die Bloecke 3 bis 6 bleiben geoeffnet, und Udawalawe und Wilpattu sind nicht betroffen, fuer Reisen in diesem Zeitraum kontaktieren wir Sie, um die Safari in einen dieser Parks oder auf ein Datum nach dem 15. Oktober zu verschieben. Udawalawe ist der staerkere Park fuer Elefanten, Wilpattu bietet ruhigere Leopardensichtungen.

Arugam Bay funktioniert nach einem entgegengesetzten Kalender zum Rest der Standard-Sri-Lanka-Route. Seine Saison dauert etwa von Mai bis September, genau dann, wenn der Suedwestmonsun die Sued- und Westkueste aufwuehlt, was es zum richtigen Ziel fuer eine europaeische Sommerreise macht, die sonst ein Kompromiss waere.

Die Anfahrt von Ella bedeutet, den Suedosten zu durchqueren, und Yala liegt auf dem Weg. Das macht den Transfertag zum sinnvollen Zeitpunkt fuer den Park statt einer Rueckfahrt.

Block 1 hat die hoechste je gemessene Leopardendichte weltweit, zusammen mit Lippenbaeren, Elefanten, Wasserbueffeln, Krokodilen, und ueber zweihundert Vogelarten. An einem geschaeftigen Morgen in der Saison beherbergt er auch etwa dreihundert Jeeps; beides stimmt.

Die Morgenfahrt ist die einzige, die sich lohnt, Tiere bewegen sich im ersten Licht und suchen bis neun Uhr Schutz.

Nach dem Park fuehrt die Strasse nordwaerts entlang der Kueste durch Panama nach Arugam Bay und Pottuvil, und die Landschaft wechselt zu trockenem Buschland, Lagunen, und langen leeren Straenden. Das aeusserste Ende dieses Abschnitts grenzt an den Kumana-Nationalpark, eines der besten Vogelbeobachtungsgebiete des Landes und fast nie besucht.

Ausserhalb der Surfsaison schliesst ein Grossteil von Arugam Bay und die Wellen werden flach, pruefen Sie also Ihre Daten dagegen vor der Buchung.
