Our guide brought Mehrangarh Fort completely to life — the tales of the Rathore rulers and the handprints at the gate gave me chills. Having the air-conditioned car waiting outside each stop was a blessing in July. We never felt rushed and he happily rearranged things so we ended the day looking out over the blue rooftops. Worth every penny.

A brilliantly organised private day. The driver picked us up right on time from our haveli and the Toyota was spotless and cool. What impressed me most was how much freedom we had — we added Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell on a whim and the guide made it happen. The indigo lanes were unforgettable for photos.

Did this with my parents who are in their seventies and it worked perfectly. Fantastic value for a full private day at sixty dollars, and the guide really knew his history. My only note is that Mehrangarh was heaving with crowds by late morning and the climb up is steeper than I expected in the heat. Go early if you can. Everything else, from the car to the blue city walk, was excellent.

The blue houses below the fort are even more magical in person, and our guide knew exactly which quiet lanes to wander for the best colours and fewer tourists. He also pointed us to a wonderful rooftop spot for a Marwari thali lunch overlooking Mehrangarh. Warm, patient and full of local stories. Highly recommend this one.

Umaid Bhawan's Art Deco grandeur and the vintage car collection were a surprise highlight, and the guide's commentary on the royal family living there was fascinating. Really enjoyable and great value for a private car and guide. The heat in April was intense by midday, so a couple of the later temple stops felt a little rushed as we tried to stay ahead of it. That said, the air-conditioned car saved us, and the guide's knowledge of Mehrangarh made the whole day worthwhile.
