Este es el dia de caminata con un poco de todo lo demas incorporado, y funciona porque Ella es lo bastante pequeña para que el jardin de especias y el puente queden entre las dos subidas en lugar de sumarse al dia.

Ella Rock es la caminata que justifica el guia. La ruta sigue la via del tren desde la estacion de Ella durante unos veinte minutos y luego deja la linea en un cruce sin señal, con varias alternativas plausibles y solo una respuesta correcta. Desde alli atraviesa tierras de plantacion donde los senderos se bifurcan constantemente, y la gente se pierde alli cada semana. Tres horas de ida y vuelta, una larga subida por terreno irregular, terminando en una cresta cumbre abierta con una amplia vista de vuelta sobre el Gap.

Little Adam's Peak es la mas facil, 45 minutos por un sendero en su mayoria escalonado para una vista posiblemente mejor aun.

El jardin de especias entre ambas cubre canela, pimienta, cardamomo, curcuma y las plantas ayurvedicas cultivadas en todos los jardines de pueblo de aqui. Sri Lanka produce la mayor parte de la canela verdadera del mundo, y la diferencia entre ella y la casia vendida como canela en la mayoria de los paises se hace evidente cuando alguien le muestra ambas cortezas.

El puente de los nueve arcos, 91 metros de piedra construidos sin acero durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, cierra el dia.

Ella es un pueblo a 1.040 metros en las montañas del sur, al que se llega en el tren desde Kandy que la mayoria considera el trayecto ferroviario mas bonito de Asia, y sus lugares de interes estan todos a pocos kilometros: el puente de los nueve arcos, un viaducto de ladrillo de 1921 en un desfiladero de te, que un tren cruza varias veces al dia; el Little Adam’s Peak, una caminata de 40 minutos entre te hasta una cresta; Ella Rock, una subida mas exigente de tres horas; y las cascadas de Ravana en la carretera hacia Wellawaya. Las mañanas son claras y las tardes de los meses humedos traen nubes al paso, por eso las caminatas se hacen temprano. Los tuk-tuks son el transporte, y cualquier alojamiento puede conseguir uno.
