Horton Plains es el paisaje mas extraño de Sri Lanka: una meseta de pastizal de altitud y bosque de niebla a unos 2.300 metros, erosionada por el viento y fria, con arboles enanos cubiertos de musgo y liquen. Parece mas Escocia que los tropicos, y las especies que viven en esa franja de altitud no existen en ningun otro lugar.

World's End es la razon por la que la gente viene. El escarpe sur termina abruptamente y el suelo cae unos 870 metros en una pared vertical, con la llanura y, en una mañana clara, la costa sur visibles muy abajo.

Llegar alli en tren hasta Ohiya es lo que distingue esto del viaje habitual por carretera. Ohiya es la estacion mas alta de la linea de montaña, el trayecto de subida cruza lo mejor del pais del te, y convierte el acceso en parte del dia en lugar de un trayecto de dos horas en la oscuridad.

El bucle mide nueve kilometros y dura de tres a cuatro horas, recorrido en sentido antihorario para que Little World's End y World's End lleguen antes de las nubes y las cascadas de Baker queden para el regreso.

El alquiler privado importa aqui sobre todo por el ritmo: la meseta recompensa detenerse, y un grupo caminando segun un horario tiende a no hacerlo.

El ciervo sambar es comun. El leopardo de Sri Lanka vive aqui y practicamente nunca se ve.

Ella es un pueblo a 1.040 metros en las montañas del sur, al que se llega en el tren desde Kandy que la mayoria considera el trayecto ferroviario mas bonito de Asia, y sus lugares de interes estan todos a pocos kilometros: el puente de los nueve arcos, un viaducto de ladrillo de 1921 en un desfiladero de te, que un tren cruza varias veces al dia; el Little Adam’s Peak, una caminata de 40 minutos entre te hasta una cresta; Ella Rock, una subida mas exigente de tres horas; y las cascadas de Ravana en la carretera hacia Wellawaya. Las mañanas son claras y las tardes de los meses humedos traen nubes al paso, por eso las caminatas se hacen temprano. Los tuk-tuks son el transporte, y cualquier alojamiento puede conseguir uno.

Engaged this tour package and was assigned a driver cum tour guide, Mr Sanju, who was very experienced and brought us around. He showed us some of the other spots during the tour as well. Had a great time with him as a guide! Thank you!

Le parc est très beau mais nous ne pouvons malheureusement pas recommander cette excursion. En effet le prix est beaucoup trop élevé par rapport à la prestation. Le guide n’a pas vraiment été utile et il ne parlait pas anglais. Nous avons été déçues par rapport à la promesse de l’excursion.

Amith, our Guide, is a very nice person and showed us some sweet spots to enjoy the magnificent nature of the horton plains! he was always aware to avoid crowded places and took beautiful pictures from us! Also we could so some spontaneous changes of our day easily! Thank you so much for that day! Was totall worth it!
