La mayoria de las reservas de safari en Sri Lanka le dejan pagar el permiso del parque en efectivo en la entrada, lo que para un visitante extranjero supone entre 25 y 40 dolares estadounidenses adicionales a lo que ya pago, y sorprende a mucha gente. Esta version lo incluye, algo que vale la pena saber al comparar precios, una oferta mas barata que excluye el permiso normalmente no es mas barata.

Udawalawe esta a dos horas al sur de Ella y es el parque fiable. Creado en 1972 alrededor de un nuevo embalse, las tierras de cultivo desplazadas se convirtieron en pastizal abierto, y no hay donde esconderse para un elefante. Unos seiscientos animales residentes, normalmente visibles dentro de los veinte minutos desde la entrada, y los avistamientos son casi seguros en lugar de cuestion de suerte.

Lo que no vera es un leopardo. Existen en Udawalawe y practicamente nunca se ven, asi que si los leopardos son lo que busca, tome el viaje a Yala y acepte las multitudes que lo acompañan.

El resto son bufalos de agua, ciervos moteados, chacales, cocodrilos marinos junto al embalse, y una observacion de aves genuinamente buena, aguilas culebreras, aguilas azor, cigueñas pintadas y una fuerte migracion invernal.

El alquiler privado significa que el rastreador trabaja para su grupo en lugar de segun un horario, lo que en la practica significa quedarse en un abrevadero en lugar de seguir adelante.
