Tenga en cuenta antes de reservar: el Departamento de Conservacion de Vida Silvestre ha cerrado los bloques 1 y 2 del Parque Nacional de Yala del 14 de septiembre al 15 de octubre de 2026 por sequia, por lo que los safaris en esos bloques no pueden realizarse en esas fechas. Los bloques 3 a 6 permanecen abiertos, y Udawalawe y Wilpattu no se ven afectados; para viajes dentro de ese periodo le contactaremos para trasladar el safari a uno de esos parques o a una fecha posterior al 15 de octubre. Udawalawe es el parque mas fuerte para elefantes; Wilpattu ofrece avistamientos de leopardos mas tranquilos.

Catorce horas es la duracion honesta de este dia y existe porque la carretera de Ella a Yala pasa por ambas grandes cascadas de la region en el descenso.

Las cascadas de Ravana son las primeras, una amplia cascada de 25 metros junto a la carretera debajo de Ella, nombrada por el rey demonio del Ramayana que supuestamente escondio a Sita en las cuevas de arriba. Diyaluma sigue, y con 220 metros es la segunda cascada mas alta de Sri Lanka, cayendo del escarpe en una sola lamina y visible por completo desde la carretera.

Luego la llanura, y Yala. El bloque 1 tiene la mayor densidad registrada de leopardos del planeta, junto con osos perezosos, elefantes, cocodrilos marinos y mas de doscientas especies de aves. Tambien tiene varios cientos de jeeps en una mañana concurrida de temporada, y ambos hechos pertenecen a la misma frase.

El safari al amanecer es el que funciona, los animales se mueven con la primera luz y se refugian hacia las nueve.

La subida de vuelta a las montañas ocupa las ultimas tres horas del dia. Si catorce horas parece demasiado, la version sin las cascadas es tres horas mas corta, y Udawalawe en lugar de Yala es aun mas corta.
