Wilpattu cubre bastante mas de mil kilometros cuadrados de bosque de zona seca al norte de Puttalam, y su caracter proviene de los villus, lagos naturales poco profundos que retienen agua mucho despues de que el bosque circundante se haya secado. Los animales van a ellos, y un buen rastreador planea la salida alrededor de los que esten actualmente productivos.
Esta salida esta ajustada a uno de los dos extremos del dia. La opcion del amanecer entra cuando se abren las puertas, cuando la luz es baja, el aire todavia fresco y los leopardos mas propensos a estar en las pistas de arena. La opcion del atardecer recorre las ultimas horas de luz, cuando los villus se llenan de ciervos y bufalos y el cielo sobre el agua esta en su mejor momento para fotos. En cualquier caso, esta dentro del parque durante unas cuatro horas.
El animal estrella de Wilpattu es el leopardo, y la densidad del parque es respetable, pero los avistamientos dependen de la suerte. Lo que puede esperar razonablemente es territorio de osos perezosos en los meses de fructificacion, ciervos moteados, sambares, jabalies, bufalos, cocodrilos marinos en los margenes de los villus, y una fuerte vida de aves.
Viaja en un 4x4 abierto con un conductor que tambien actua como rastreador y guia. El vehiculo es suyo en lugar de una lanzadera compartida, asi que el ritmo de la salida es suyo para fijarlo dentro de las normas del parque.
Lo principal a considerar es desde donde parte. Wilpattu esta lejos de Colombo, aproximadamente tres a cuatro horas de conduccion cada direccion, asi que una recogida en Colombo convierte esto en un dia muy largo, diez horas o mas con la mayor parte en carretera. Si se aloja en Anuradhapura, Negombo o cerca de la entrada en Hunuwilagama, la misma salida se ajusta comodamente a medio dia. Elija la opcion de recogida que coincida con donde realmente este.

Clima
This runs outdoors, so the operator can call it off for rain, wind or sea conditions, and that decision is usually made on the day. If they cancel, you choose: another date, or your money back in full. We do not keep a booking fee on a tour that did not run.

We had a great experience with Tiger safari! Our tour guide and the driver were exceptionally kind and worked out so we could see most of the animals in Wilpattu. We booked the half day safari and we got the chance to see leopards, buffaloes, peacocks, monkeys, crocodiles and a lot of birds!
We saw almost every kind of species in the park. Our driver Yala and the guide Avishka were amazing! Really Nice people, who love their job, kind and very helpfull. We spent one of the best days in lifes… thank you both ❤️
It was a very good experience. You pay a little less than when you book at a lodge or something. Our ranger was young, but he knew all about the animals. Very friendly, and we drove through the entire park within the time. He even came to pick us up an hour early. Because of this, we saw two leopards! Very cool! Thank you 🙏🏼
The transportation went very well; everything was perfectly organized. The driver and live guide were very committed and did everything to allow us to see as much as possible. I even think they made a detour at the end so that we could see the elephants. I would definitely recommend it; it was great!

Today I had a wonderful experience at Will Pau National Park. The guide and his driver were truly attentive to my every need and answered all my questions. We toured the entire morning in the Jeep and were lucky enough to see several animals, including a leopard and an elephant. I highly recommend this experience.
The transportation from Negombo was great; a good car ride. The guide was able to provide us with a lot of information about the different animal species and always spotted them quickly so that he could show them to us.
