Description complète

I had an incredible day trip from Kandy with this tour. Some previous reviews have mentioned it’s slightly on the pricier side. However, as a solo traveller this was perfect for me. My guide Munssinghe Nadeeja picked me up at 8am from my hotel and drove me to Damulla and Sigiryia. He’s a lovely man and gave really insightful history of Sri Lanka and the areas we were driving through. The price doesn’t include entry price or a guided tour of Damulla or Sigiryia- you do that yourself but Munny helps you with tickets etc and where to go. For Sigiriya, he arranged a Sigiryia rock tour guide to tak

It is an expensive taxi. Be aware of it. But the driver was ok and very nice to us. Therefore, there was no guide for the attractions. Nice trip to the cave and to the sigirya. If you want comfort and no worries, book it. Otherwise, you can use public transport or uber to get there.

Highly Recommended Day trip, Mr Lal (Driver) was the most amazing part of this trip. Took us to all the places, explained significance of the place. He made the trip more memorable with the polite and welcoming attitude. Full marks to Mr Lal. I would recommend people to get in touch with him and roam around when in Kandy. Mr Lal contact number: +94 (0) (77) 624 1024.

Be aware itinerary may change, we sweat buckets at lions rock but this was no problem as it was dry and still safe but we did anticipate climbing Sigiriya in the morning. Dambulla is amazing; our taxi driver took us up and helped us with ticket purchasing. We were able to communicate clearly with our driver over WhatsApp. He was fantastic and punctual and accommodating. His car was spacious and well conditioned. He had brilliant local knowledge and helped us learn a lot on our drive to Sigiriya. Offered to help us the following day with a transfer from our hotel to the station which was extrem

Honestly, do not buy this tour! I would demand my money back if i could. We received no guide to any activity even thought it is said in the description that sigiryia includes a guide. Furthermore, this price service ratio is absolutely insane. Go to kandy, colombo or where you stay and you get a driver incl. Guide for approx 15000 lkr (50eur) for the whole group. Now we paid 50 eur per person and had no guide. Dont do it it is not worth! The driver was still amazing though! He helped us and tried to provide us with as many informatin as possible but he made it very clear that he was not a gui

Questions fréquentes

Hotel pickup in Colombo in the small hours of the morning.
The price does not cover sigiriya and dambulla entrance tickets; meals and drinks; tips; camera fees; personal expenses; travel insurance. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Expect uneven ground and some climbing, and mud after rain. Trainers with grip are the minimum and proper shoes are better. The pace follows the group, so tell your guide early if you want it slower rather than at the point you are struggling.
Apple Vacations Sri Lanka and Maldives. We book with them directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can confirm your place with the operator before taking it as final.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice outside India. Roughly 1,200 steps, about 180 m above the plain, with handrails the whole way. Entry is around USD 30-35 for foreign adults — one of South Asia's priciest tickets — paid in cash. Climb at the 7am opening: there is no shade above the frescoes. Full detail in our Sigiriya rock guide.
It is cheaper and has the better view — of Sigiriya. What it does not have is the water gardens, frescoes, mirror wall, lion's paws or summit palace. For the photograph, take Pidurangala. For the site, take Sigiriya. Compared properly in our Sigiriya rock guide.
Roughly June to September, peaking in August, when the shrinking reservoir exposes fresh grass and several hundred elephants converge. Outside those months the herds disperse and you get a normal safari. Operators switch between Minneriya, Kaudulla and Hurulu depending on where the herds are — that is them doing their job. See our Minneriya gathering guide.
Five caves under one granite overhang, in continuous use since the 1st century BC, holding around 150 Buddha images and 2,100 m² of painting. The approach is a steep 15-minute climb; shoes come off at the top terrace, so bring socks. See the Dambulla cave temple guide.
Polonnaruwa if you have one morning — compact, cyclable in three hours, and the Gal Vihara is the finest sculpture in the country. Anuradhapura if you have a full day and an interest in living Buddhism; it is a thousand years older and still an active pilgrimage city. See Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura.
Sigiriya is in the dry zone and follows the *northeast* monsoon — its wet season is October to January, the opposite of Colombo. Best months are May to September, which is also the elephant Gathering. See best time to visit Sigiriya.
Two nights in Sigiriya, Dambulla or Habarana. Day 1: the rock at 7am, Dambulla late morning, a 3pm safari. Day 2: Polonnaruwa by bicycle or Pidurangala at sunrise. Our Sigiriya 2-day itinerary sets out the order and why it matters.
December to March is the driest stretch. Colombo sits on the west coast, so it gets the southwest monsoon roughly May to September — the northeast monsoon (October to January) hits the *other* side of the island instead. Any guide describing one national "rainy season" is only describing half the country. Full breakdown in our best time to visit Colombo guide.
Tuk-tuks are everywhere — insist on the meter or agree the fare first. PickMe is the local ride-hailing app and usually cheaper than flagging one down, with no fare argument. The coastal railway south toward Galle runs along the sea and costs very little. See getting around Colombo.
Rice and curry is the everyday meal, not a dish — rice with several curries and sambols. Kottu roti is chopped roti cooked with a distinctive clanging rhythm on the griddle, hoppers are bowl-shaped fermented rice-flour pancakes, and lamprais is the Dutch Burgher dish baked in a banana leaf. See the Colombo food guide.
Pettah is the market district east of Fort, and its streets are organised by trade — one for electronics, one for textiles, one for hardware, one for spices. The candy-striped Red Mosque (Jami Ul-Alfar, 1908) is the landmark. Street-by-street in our Pettah market guide.
Galle is the easiest — about 2 hours on the southern expressway. Kandy is only 115 km but 3-4 hours each way on a mountain road. Sigiriya is realistically a 12-14 hour day and is better as an overnight. Honest distances in our day trips from Colombo guide.
Two days covers it comfortably. Colombo is not a museum city and most travellers pass through on the way somewhere else — our Colombo 2-day itinerary sets out a realistic pair of days.
