Le trajet en train d'Ella a Haputale est court, moins d'une heure, mais il couvre l'un des meilleurs tronçons de la ligne de montagne, suivant les courbes de niveau avec la vallee d'Uva qui se derobe. Contrairement au long trajet de Nanu Oya, celui-ci permet facilement de trouver une place et ne consume pas la journee.

Depuis Haputale, un tuk-tuk grimpe la route de la plantation jusqu'a Lipton's Seat, a environ 1 970 metres. Thomas Lipton a achete ses premieres plantations de Ceylan en 1890 et, selon l'histoire, est monte jusqu'a cet eperon pour observer tout ce qu'il possedait; par une journee claire, la vue s'etend sur cinq provinces. La route qui monte est etroite, escarpee et pleine de lacets, et un tuk-tuk ouvert y est l'objectif plutot qu'un compromis.

Dambatenne, la fabrique construite par Lipton, se trouve sur le chemin du retour et c'est l'une des plus anciennes usines en activite du pays. La visite suit la feuille du bac de fletrissage a la table de tri.
