La plupart des reservations de safari au Sri Lanka vous laissent payer le permis du parc en especes a l'entree, ce qui pour un visiteur etranger represente 25 a 40 dollars americains en plus de ce que vous avez deja paye et surprend beaucoup de gens. Udawalawe se trouve a deux heures au sud d'Ella et c'est le parc fiable. Cree en 1972 autour d'un nouveau reservoir, les terres agricoles deplacees sont devenues une prairie ouverte, et il n'y a nulle part pour un elephant de se cacher. Environ six cents animaux residents, generalement visibles dans les vingt minutes suivant l'entree, et les observations sont quasi certaines plutot que chanceuses.

Ce que vous ne verrez pas, c'est un leopard. Ils existent a Udawalawe et ne sont essentiellement jamais vus, donc si les leopards sont l'objectif, prenez le voyage a Yala et acceptez les foules qui l'accompagnent.

Le reste, c'est des buffles d'eau, des cerfs tachetes, des chacals, des crocodiles marins le long du reservoir, et une observation d'oiseaux vraiment bonne, des serpentaires, des aigles autoursiers, des cigognes peintes et une forte migration hivernale.

La location privee signifie que le traqueur travaille pour votre groupe plutot que selon un horaire, ce qui en pratique signifie rester a un point d'eau plutot que de continuer.
