La route d'Ella vers Udawalawe descend environ neuf cents metres sur une trentaine de kilometres, et a velo c'est une des descentes les plus memorables du Sri Lanka. C'est aussi un itineraire que presque personne ne parcourt, car la plupart des gens sont en voiture pour un safari.

Les cascades de Ravana ouvrent la journee, une large cascade au bord de la route juste en dessous d'Ella, nommee d'apres le roi demon du Ramayana cense avoir cache Sita dans les grottes au-dessus.

Puis l'escarpement. La route descend en lacets a travers la foret et les broussailles, et la temperature grimpe d'environ quinze degres a mesure que vous perdez l'altitude, vous partez en veste et finissez en chemise.
