A noter avant de reserver: le Departement de la conservation de la faune a ferme les blocs 1 et 2 du parc national de Yala du 14 septembre au 15 octobre 2026 en raison de la secheresse, donc les safaris dans ces blocs ne peuvent pas avoir lieu a ces dates. Les blocs 3 a 6 restent ouverts, et Udawalawe et Wilpattu ne sont pas affectes, pour un voyage dans cette periode nous vous contacterons pour deplacer le safari vers l'un de ces parcs ou a une date apres le 15 octobre. Udawalawe est le parc le plus fort pour les elephants; Wilpattu offre des observations de leopards plus tranquilles.

Yala se trouve au sud-est d'Ella sur le chemin vers la cote, ce qui fait de la journee de transfert le moment sense pour le faire plutot qu'un aller-retour depuis l'une ou l'autre extremite.

Le bloc 1, la section que la plupart des visiteurs voient, detient la plus forte densite enregistree de leopards sur Terre. C'est une statistique veritable et elle s'accompagne d'une foule veritable: par une matinee animee en haute saison, trois cents jeeps parcourent les memes pistes, et une observation attire des vehicules de tout le bloc. C'est l'endroit au monde ou il est le plus probable de voir un leopard sauvage, et ce n'est pas un endroit tranquille.

Le parc est plus que ses leopards. Les ours paresseux, plus difficiles a voir et sans doute meilleurs, les elephants, les buffles d'eau, les crocodiles marins, et plus de deux cents especes d'oiseaux dont un grand nombre de migrateurs hivernaux.

Le safari a l'aube est celui qu'il faut prendre. Les animaux bougent a la premiere lumiere et s'abritent vers neuf heures, et le meme parc a onze heures du matin est largement vide de tout sauf de jeeps.

Apres le trajet, il reste environ deux heures jusqu'a la cote, avec une arrivee en debut d'apres-midi.
