A noter avant de reserver: le Departement de la conservation de la faune a ferme les blocs 1 et 2 du parc national de Yala du 14 septembre au 15 octobre 2026 en raison de la secheresse, donc les safaris dans ces blocs ne peuvent pas avoir lieu a ces dates. Les blocs 3 a 6 restent ouverts, et Udawalawe et Wilpattu ne sont pas affectes, pour un voyage dans cette periode nous vous contacterons pour deplacer le safari vers l'un de ces parcs ou a une date apres le 15 octobre. Udawalawe est le parc le plus fort pour les elephants; Wilpattu offre des observations de leopards plus tranquilles.

Yala est la raison pour laquelle les gens viennent au Sri Lanka pour la faune. Le bloc 1, la section ouverte a la plupart des visiteurs, detient la plus forte densite enregistree de leopards sur Terre, une consequence de la forte densite de proies et de l'absence de tigres ou de lions pour leur faire concurrence.

Cette densite est reelle et la foule qu'elle attire aussi. Par une matinee animee en haute saison, le bloc 1 peut accueillir trois cents jeeps, et quand un leopard est repere, les radios s'allument et les vehicules convergent. C'est l'endroit au monde ou il est le plus probable de voir un leopard sauvage et ce n'est pas une experience de nature sauvage isolee.

Au-dela des leopards, Yala abrite des ours paresseux, des elephants, des buffles d'eau, des cerfs tachetes, des crocodiles et une gamme exceptionnelle d'oiseaux, plus de deux cents especes, dont des cigognes peintes et un grand afflux hivernal de migrateurs.

Le trajet depuis Ella dure environ trois heures dans chaque sens, c'est pourquoi c'est une journee de douze heures qui commence dans l'obscurite. Le safari a l'aube est celui qui vaut la peine: les animaux bougent a la premiere lumiere et s'abritent vers neuf heures.

Le bloc 1 de Yala ferme environ un mois chaque septembre pour entretien. Verifiez avant de reserver autour de cette periode.

I liked my guide/driver. Very professional & I felt safe along the long drive. He made up for the lack of wildlife on that day. The jeep driver said: The animals are on holiday today. still, we saw some elephants, birds, peacocks & crocodiles.
