A noter avant la reservation: le departement de conservation de la faune a ferme les blocs 1 et 2 du parc national de Yala du 14 septembre au 15 octobre 2026 en raison de la secheresse, les safaris dans ces blocs ne peuvent donc pas avoir lieu a ces dates. Les blocs 3 a 6 restent ouverts, et Udawalawe et Wilpattu ne sont pas affectes, pour un voyage dans cette periode nous vous contacterons pour deplacer le safari vers l'un de ces parcs ou a une date apres le 15 octobre. Udawalawe est le parc le plus fort pour les elephants, Wilpattu offre des observations de leopards plus tranquilles.

La plupart des gens quittent la region de Yala le matin apres un trajet de safari a l'aube et se dirigent vers les montagnes, et la montee de l'escarpement est trois heures de pas grand-chose si on la fait directement.

Etili est un village agricole sur le chemin, dans la campagne entre la plaine et l'escarpement, et s'y arreter transforme le transfert en la moitie la plus memorable de la journee.

Ce qui se passe est simple: vous rencontrez une famille, vous cuisinez avec elle, et vous mangez ce que vous avez prepare. Le riz et curry est six ou sept plats separes cuisines individuellement et manges ensemble, et y participer signifie raper de la noix de coco sur un hiramanaya, moudre la pate d'epices sur une pierre, et cuisiner dans des pots en argile sur un feu de bois qui ne se comporte en rien comme une plaque a gaz.

Autour de cela, il y a le village lui-meme, rizieres, petites exploitations, le reservoir qui les arrose, et les affaires ordinaires d'un lieu qui ne figure sur aucun itineraire.

Puis l'ascension, qui est le moment ou la journee change de caractere: de la chaleur sèche des basses terres aux pentes de the a mille metres en un peu plus d'une heure, et environ quinze degres plus frais au moment ou vous atteignez Ella.

Environ cinq heures en tout, arrivee dans l'apres-midi avec votre premiere matinee a Ella libre.
