La chaine Hanthana est le mur de collines directement au sud de Kandy, sept sommets alignes que vous regardez depuis le lac chaque jour sans necessairement realiser que vous pouvez les parcourir. Ce voyage le fait, et comme le depart du sentier se trouve a vingt minutes de la ville, c'est la randonnee serieuse la plus facile disponible depuis Kandy.

L'itineraire grimpe a travers la plantation de the Hanthana jusqu'a la crete, ou la vue s'ouvre dans les deux directions a la fois: Kandy et son lac au nord, les montagnes s'etendant vers le sud en direction de Nuwara Eliya. Par une matinee claire, la chaine des Knuckles se dresse au-dela de la vallee.

Katusukonda est l'eperon a l'autre extremite, et la marche jusqu'a lui traverse des prairies et des poches de foret residuelle avec des grottes dans la roche sous la ligne de crete. Il y a peu de monde ici, c'est ou les habitants de Kandy marchent, pas ou vont les groupes touristiques.

La cascade a la fin est la recompense: une piscine assez froide pour etre un vrai choc apres une marche chaude, et assez peu profonde pour s'y asseoir. La plupart des groupes s'arretent une heure avant de redescendre.

Quatre a cinq heures de marche avec une vraie montee au depart, sur des sentiers de plantation et des prairies ouvertes. Apres la pluie, il y a des sangsues dans le the, inoffensives, et le guide porte du sel, mais gardez cela a l'esprit. La crete est exposee sans ombre, donc un depart matinal bat a la fois la chaleur et les nuages de midi qui ferment generalement la vue. La piscine a la fin est froide comme de la neige fondue plutot que rafraichissante; la plupart des gens tiennent quelques minutes et sont contents d'y etre alles.
