Le train de Kandy a Ella est le trajet que tout le monde veut faire, et c'est aussi celui que l'on rate le plus souvent. Le parcours complet prend pres de sept heures, les billets se vendent des semaines a l'avance, et le plus beau paysage se trouve dans le dernier tronçon. Ce voyage resout le probleme en divisant la journee en deux : vous parcourez la section superieure en vehicule prive avec des arrets ou cela vaut la peine, puis vous montez a bord du train a Nanu Oya pour la partie qui merite vraiment sa reputation.

La route qui sort de Kandy grimpe par le col de Ramboda, ou la cascade tombe en plusieurs paliers pres de la route et ou l'air change sensiblement avec l'altitude. Le the remplace la jungle. Vous passerez devant des usines de plantation ou la feuille est encore fletrie, roulee et triee a peu pres comme a l'epoque ou les Britanniques ont plante les collines dans les annees 1800, et il y a le temps de s'arreter pour voir comment cela fonctionne devant une tasse buvee a l'endroit meme ou elle a ete cultivee.

Nuwara Eliya a toujours l'aspect de la station de montagne batie par les planteurs : un hippodrome, une poste en brique rouge, des haies et une fraicheur humide qui surprend les visiteurs apres la cote. De la, c'est un court trajet jusqu'a la gare de Nanu Oya, ou votre billet de train reserve vous attend.

La section en train traverse Ohiya et Haputale jusqu'a Ella, le long de corniches taillees dans les collines, avec des cueilleuses de the travaillant sur les pentes en dessous. Les portes restent ouvertes, les vendeurs circulent avec des vadai et du the, et les wagons sont generalement pleins. C'est le trajet ferroviaire le plus photographie de Sri Lanka, et ce n'est pas un hasard.

Ramzan was a very good driver who got us to the train on time. He was fast and yet drove safely (we didn't want to leave until 9:00 AM, which in retrospect was perhaps a bit tight). But Ramzan managed to get us to the train on time. We stopped at a tea plantation and a waterfall along the way. With Eminem, he hit the nail on the head with our musical taste! Thank you for the great experience!

Malik was our driver, and we were super happy! The whole tour was very, very great. Unfortunately, we had a little rain in Nuwara Eliya, but it was still a very nice tour! We would really recommend it. Malik carefully picked us up from the hotel earlier as an add-on so that the day wouldn't be so packed, and so we had more time. The tea plantations and especially the tea factory were really beautiful and interesting! The viewpoints and the waterfall are great!:) Best of all: Malik gave it his all on the train to Ella and went through the crowd for us and reserved a seat for us, and he also got the tickets. His commitment and that of his colleague from Get You Guide was really unbelievably great!!! We are super happy!

Mr. Danu took me by tuk-tuk to a scenic spot in the Nuwara area. I was very satisfied because I was able to see many beautiful tea plantations. He also helped me get from Nanuoya to the train, and he taught me how to get on, so I was able to get a good seat by the window and enjoy a ride with a spectacular view. Thank you very much. By the way, for those participating by tuk-tuk, the Nuwara area was quite cold, so a hoodie or similar is essential. Lol

January to March for the clearest Ella Gap views. June to September is dry but hazy from the Uva wind; October to December is wet. The real risk is cloud, not rain — at 1,000 m the view can be inside a cloud on a dry day, and mornings are clearer than afternoons in every month. See best time to visit Ella.

Do everything before nine in the morning. The Gap view is clearer in the morning in every month, Little Adam's Peak has a queue by nine, and the Nine Arch Bridge has hundreds of people on it by ten.
Time it for a puja — 5.30am, 9.30am or 6.30pm. Those are the only windows when the upper relic chamber opens and the hevisi drummers play; outside them you are visiting a beautiful building rather than a ceremony. February for the clearest weather, or July-August, which is drier here than most people expect and covers the Esala Perahera. Kandy sits between Sri Lanka's *two* monsoons and catches some of both, so it has no long dry season — but it also never has a season that is a write-off. See best time to visit Kandy.
