2-Day Udaipur City Tour with Eklingji & Nagda (Saas Bahu) Temples

Discover the royal heritage, scenic lakes, and sacred temples of Udaipur on this 2-day guided tour. Known as the City of Lakes, Udaipur is famous for its magnificent palaces, beautiful gardens, and rich Rajput history. This tour allows you to explore the city’s most iconic landmarks along with a spiritual excursion to the historic temples of Eklingji and Nagda located in the countryside near Udaipur.

With a knowledgeable local guide and comfortable transportation, you will experience the culture, architecture, and traditions that make Udaipur one of Rajasthan’s most charming destinations.

Day 1: Udaipur City Highlights Tour

Your tour begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Udaipur. Meet your local guide and start exploring the historic landmarks of this romantic city.

The first stop is the magnificent City Palace, one of the largest palace complexes in Rajasthan. Overlooking the serene waters of Lake Pichola, this grand palace was built over several centuries by the rulers of Mewar. Walk through its courtyards, balconies, museums, and royal chambers while learning about the fascinating history of the Rajput dynasty.

After the palace visit, walk to the nearby Jagdish Temple, a beautiful 17th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is famous for its impressive architecture, detailed carvings, and spiritual atmosphere.

Continue your sightseeing with a visit to Saheliyon Ki Bari, also known as the Garden of Maidens. Built for the royal ladies of the palace, this peaceful garden features marble pavilions, lotus pools, lush greenery, and decorative fountains.

Next, explore the fascinating Vintage Car Museum, where you can see an impressive collection of classic and royal cars once used by the Maharajas of Udaipur.

In the evening, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Lake Pichola, offering spectacular views of the surrounding palaces and ghats. During the boat ride you will also see the famous Lake Palace and the historic island palace Jag Mandir.

After completing the city tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel for an overnight stay in Udaipur.

Day 2: Eklingji & Nagda Temple Excursion

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the hotel for a half-day excursion to the historic temples near Udaipur.

Drive about 22 kilometers north of the city to visit the sacred Eklingji Temple. This famous temple complex is dedicated to Lord Shiva and dates back to the 8th century. It has long been the spiritual center of the rulers of Mewar, who considered Lord Eklingji their ruling deity. The temple complex features beautiful marble structures, ornate carvings, and a unique four-faced idol of Lord Shiva.

After exploring Eklingji, continue to the nearby ancient town of Nagda, once an important capital of the Mewar kingdom. Here you will visit the famous Saas Bahu Temples, built in the 10th century. These temples are known for their remarkable stone carvings, elegant architecture, and peaceful setting beside a lake and surrounding hills.

Your guide will explain the fascinating legends and historical significance of these temples while you admire the detailed sculptures and craftsmanship.

After the temple visits, return to Udaipur. If time permits, you may stop at local markets to explore traditional handicrafts, miniature paintings, textiles, and souvenirs that reflect the rich culture of Rajasthan.

The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Udaipur, leaving you with wonderful memories of the royal city and its sacred surroundings.

Two really well-balanced days. The City Palace on day one was overwhelming in the best way, and our guide knew every corner of it. Day two out to Eklingji felt completely different, quiet, spiritual and away from the tourist crowds. Having the same car and guide across both days made everything effortless. Worth every penny for a private experience like this.

We loved the drive out to Nagda. The old ruined temples there were almost empty and our guide explained the carvings in wonderful detail. Eklingji itself was strict about no phones inside, which honestly made the visit more meaningful. Pickup from our haveli hotel was punctual both mornings. A thoughtful, unhurried tour that respected our pace.

Perfect for our family of four. The kids were tired by the afternoon of day one, so the driver simply let us rest in the car between stops and adjusted the plan. Vegetarian lunch recommendations near Eklingji were excellent. The guide was patient and never rushed my parents on the palace steps. Genuinely private and flexible, exactly as described.

A great two days overall and superb value for a private guide and car. My only gripe is that day two felt a little short compared with the packed city day, we were back by early afternoon. The Eklingji temple was beautiful but busy with local worshippers. Still, the guide was knowledgeable and the tolls and parking being included saved a lot of hassle.

January was the ideal time, warm days and no need to rush from the heat. Our guide framed the best photo spots around the lakes and palace for us. The countryside drive to the temples through the Aravalli hills was a highlight I hadn't expected. Everything from taxes to fuel was covered, so no fiddling with cash all day. Highly recommend.

As a bit of a history buff I got exactly what I wanted. The guide's stories about the Mewar rulers at the City Palace and the significance of Eklingji as their family deity tied the two days together brilliantly. Comfortable car, easy hotel pickups, and a real willingness to linger where I was interested. First-class private tour.

Lovely tour but do go prepared for the April heat, by midday on the city day we were flagging and glad of the air-conditioned car. The temples on day two were cooler and peaceful. Our guide was friendly and flexible about adding a Lake Pichola viewpoint. Just start early if you visit in spring and carry plenty of water.

Booking was straightforward and confirmation came quickly with our guide's contact. The mix of grand palaces and the quieter Eklingji and Nagda temples gave us a fuller sense of Udaipur than a single day ever could. Modest dress at the temples was no problem once we knew in advance. A calm, well-organised couple of days we'll remember.

Frequently Asked Questions

Day one focuses on Udaipur city itself, taking in iconic sights like the City Palace, the lakes and gardens, and the Rajput heritage that gives Udaipur its 'City of Lakes' reputation. Day two is a spiritual excursion into the countryside to the historic Eklingji and Nagda temples just outside the city. You'll have a knowledgeable local guide and a comfortable car for both full days of sightseeing.
The $120 price covers the whole 2-day tour and includes a professional tour guide for both days, a private car for all Udaipur and temple-excursion sightseeing, and all taxes, tolls, fuel and parking fees. It is a single all-inclusive option for the pair of days. Temple donation boxes, monument entry tickets, meals and hotel stays are not included, so budget a little extra for those.
The tour package covers your guide, car and all road costs, but monument entrance fees such as the City Palace ticket are not included in the $120 price. Eklingji and Nagda are active places of worship, so entry is generally free, though small donations are customary. Your guide will tell you the current entry costs at each site so there are no surprises on the day.
Yes, because you have a private car and driver for both full days, your guide will collect you from and return you to your Udaipur hotel each day. When you book, please share your hotel name and preferred start time so pickup can be arranged smoothly. Most guests based in the old city or near Lake Pichola find pickup very convenient.
This is a private guided tour with your own dedicated guide and car for the full two days, so the pace is set entirely by you and your party. There are no strangers joining and no fixed group timetable. If you'd prefer a single-day city experience instead, the Udaipur private full-day sightseeing tour is a good shorter alternative.
Eklingji and Nagda sit around 22 km north of Udaipur, roughly a 45-minute drive each way through the Aravalli countryside. Since the two temples are close together, you can comfortably visit both in a half to full day on day two. The scenic drive is part of the experience, and because the car is private you can stop for photos along the way.
Eklingji is a living Hindu temple, so modest dress is essential, shoulders and knees covered for everyone, and you'll remove your shoes before entering. Comfortable walking shoes are ideal for uneven temple courtyards and City Palace ramps. In the warmer months bring light, breathable cotton, a hat and sunscreen, and a small shawl for the temples.
October to March is the most comfortable season in Udaipur, with warm days and cool evenings that are perfect for two full days of sightseeing. April to June can be very hot, often above 40C, so an earlier morning start helps. The monsoon months of July to September bring lush green hills and fuller lakes, which many travellers love for photography.
There's a moderate amount of walking across City Palace courtyards and the temple complexes, along with some steps and uneven stone underfoot. Eklingji's ancient layout and Nagda's ruins involve gentle exploration rather than steep climbs. The private car reduces distances between sites, so with sensible shoes most reasonably mobile travellers manage comfortably at their own pace.
Yes, the private format makes it very flexible for families and older guests, since you can rest in the car, shorten stops or skip anything tiring. The mix of palaces, lakes and temples keeps children interested, though very young ones may find two full days long. Let your guide know about any mobility needs so the route can be paced gently.
Meals aren't included, but your guide is happy to recommend and stop at good local restaurants between sightseeing, from lakeside rooftop spots to authentic Rajasthani thali. Vegetarian food is abundant everywhere in Udaipur, and the temple town area around Eklingji is largely vegetarian and often alcohol-free. Just tell your guide your preferences or any dietary needs and they'll steer you well.
Photography is welcome across most of Udaipur's palaces, gardens and lakes, and the guide will point out the best viewpoints. Note that Eklingji temple strictly prohibits photography and phones inside the main shrine, as it is an active place of worship, though the surrounding architecture and Nagda's ruins are photogenic. Some City Palace areas may charge a small camera fee.
Alongside the grand City Palace, day one typically weaves in Udaipur's celebrated lakes, ornamental gardens and heritage streets that showcase its Rajput history. Your private guide tailors the exact route to your interests and pace. If you want to add a boat perspective of Lake Pichola or dedicate more time to the old city, discuss it with your guide at the start of the day.
Once you book, you'll receive a confirmation with your guide's details and pickup arrangements. We recommend confirming your hotel and preferred start time in advance so both days run smoothly. For the current cancellation and refund terms, check the booking page at checkout or contact us, as flexible options are usually available for private tours booked ahead.
Absolutely, many guests pair this city-and-temple tour with longer excursions into Rajasthan. Popular add-ons include the Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur day round trip for its fort and marble Jain temples, or a Chittorgarh Fort day trip by car. If you'd rather keep things within the city, the full-day sightseeing tour with an official guide makes a great companion day.
