Full description

This is a 3.5-hour experience in Nara, built around Secret stop, Harushika Sake Brewery store and Nara machi craft beer. It is run by Japan Tour Adventure, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Nara was Japan's first permanent capital, from 710 to 784, and its park holds Todai-ji, whose Great Buddha Hall is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and contains a 15-metre bronze Buddha cast in 752, Kasuga Taisha with its three thousand lanterns, and about 1,200 sika deer that are considered messengers of the gods and are protected. The deer bow for the shika senbei crackers sold in the park and will butt anyone who teases them. Nara is 45 minutes from Kyoto or Osaka by train and is a half-day; Todai-ji before 10:00 is the quiet hour.

The price covers Bilingual Local Guide, Food, Drinks and snacks and Souvenir pictures to download. It does not cover Extra Food, Extra Drinks and Shopping and Souvenirs, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

行基菩薩像. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Tour Adventure before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

We had a blast on our beer, sake and food tour. Our guide, Melody was a wonderful host. We learned so much and enjoyed the company as much as the unique, delicious food. Sign up. You won’t be disappointed!

This tour was great! Remy was a great tour host. He knew so much about Nara and took us to get one if a kind sushi and mochi. He was personable and really made sure there were things my friend could eat as she has a gluten allergy. I highly recommend this tour!

Locations waren geschlossen. Keine zusätzlichen Informationen zu Sehenswürdigkeiten in Nara. Unorganisiert.

Only ok for us foodie/beer enthusiasts: Shops were good, guide nice but it required a LOT of effort from us to make conversation let alone discuss the food/drink. Her expectation seemed to be that the guide role was to walk us to 4-5 shops and pay the bill for us. We ended tour early, felt it would have been more enjoyable, just as informative and cheaper to visit each business on our own. Despite visiting mochi shop earlier than planned, demonstrations were done for the day by 2:45pm, so pls consider shifting time of tour earlier. It seemed they had no special arrangements with any shops, jus

Nara is a great little town and this food and drink tour really does it justice, walking through the really atmospheric old quarter sampling its homegrown sake, beer, sushi and ramen. I had a fun afternoon exploring with Remi, a Frenchman who lives here, speaks fluent English and really knows his stuff. If I'd have had more time I'd have done one of his bike tours too.

Yes, generally — they're unusually tame from centuries of protected contact with visitors. Buy shika senbei crackers (~¥200) from a licensed vendor, and be extra cautious during October-December rutting season, when Nara city issues an annual warning about more assertive bucks.
