Full description

This is a 3.5-hour experience in Nara, built around Nara Park, Nandaimon Gate of Tōdaiji and Tōdai-ji. It is run by Japan Tour Adventure, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Nara was Japan's first permanent capital, from 710 to 784, and its park holds Todai-ji, whose Great Buddha Hall is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and contains a 15-metre bronze Buddha cast in 752, Kasuga Taisha with its three thousand lanterns, and about 1,200 sika deer that are considered messengers of the gods and are protected. The deer bow for the shika senbei crackers sold in the park and will butt anyone who teases them. Nara is 45 minutes from Kyoto or Osaka by train and is a half-day; Todai-ji before 10:00 is the quiet hour.

The price covers This tour includes everything as described, E-bike rental, Helmet if requested, Bilingual and Deer cookies at Nara Park to feed the deer. It does not cover This tour excludes everything described below, Extra deer cookies, Extra food and drinks and Tip for the guide, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

16-1 Takamaichichō, Nara, 630-8238, Japon. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Tour Adventure before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Our tour with Christophe around Nara was excellent. The e-bikes were set up and ready to go when we arrived and made a huge difference to us getting around Nara. There is no way to completely avoid the crowds at Nara but I think this was really the best way to see everything and enjoy the experience. Thanks Christophe for your patience and your excellent knowledge. One of my favourite days in Japan.

A superb way to see more of Nara than we ever could on foot-- with lots of downtime to explore and hang with the beautiful deer and shop exquisite knives. Our guide Matheus went above and beyond and made sure our kids (8 and 10) were having a great time, too.

Such an enjoyable tour seeing parts of Nara Park walking perhaps would take too much time. Places with fewer tourists as well as seeing the Temples and Shrines. Robert was a very knowledgeable guide and highly recommended this tour. Thank you to Ayumi for being able to reschedule at short notice.

I have visited Nara 3 times and this is hands down the best way to see it - you see the touristy areas AND the less busy areas that would be hard to reach on foot

Great tour. Saw way more than we would have otherwise walking. Was a crowded holiday weekend, and one of the paths we had to bike on were crowed and difficult to navigate. But our guide was great, stopping frequently to walk us through the next stretch of the journey.

Yes, generally — they're unusually tame from centuries of protected contact with visitors.
