Full description

This is a 8.5-hour experience in Nara, built around Bus/coach, Kasuga-taisha and Nara Park. It is run by Japan Panoramic Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Nara was Japan's first permanent capital, from 710 to 784, and its park holds Todai-ji, whose Great Buddha Hall is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and contains a 15-metre bronze Buddha cast in 752, Kasuga Taisha with its three thousand lanterns, and about 1,200 sika deer that are considered messengers of the gods and are protected. The deer bow for the shika senbei crackers sold in the park and will butt anyone who teases them. Nara is 45 minutes from Kyoto or Osaka by train and is a half-day; Todai-ji before 10:00 is the quiet hour.

The price covers English-speaking tour guide, Transportation by air-conditioned bus with free Wi-Fi, Japanese lunch, Admission fee for Todaiji Temple and Admission fee for Byodoin Temple. It does not cover Gratuities, Additional food and drinks and Hotel pick-up and drop off, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

タリーズコーヒー 京都アバンティ店. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Panoramic Tours before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

A great day out in Nara and Uji. The most convenient way to hit both cities in the same day. Den was great at providing historical context and also advise us on how to best navigate the deers in Nara park.

Our guide, Sakura was really informative and I learned a lot about Japanese culture. Her English was excellent. I really recommend this trip for the experience with the deer, making Matcha and the temple/Shrine visits. A really interesting and varied day.

Good day trip. Our tour guide Den was great. She made sure we were following along and comfortable throughout the day. Good pacing for the day and lunch was good too. We were catered well for vegetarian option. The temple, shrine and deer park was great with the highlight of the day being matcha tea ceremony. Very funny shop owner whose family has been running the same shop over 500 years. Great spot for matcha lollies which was provided along with the tea for tasting.
