Full description

A yukata is an unlined cotton kimono made for hot weather, and this plan is Minori's summer line — realistically a June-to-September product. Do not book it expecting a lined winter kimono; if you are visiting Nara outside the warm months, ask the shop for its standard kimono plans instead. Within its season the appeal is straightforward: cotton breathes, the layering is lighter than formal silk, and you can walk all afternoon in Nara heat without wilting. The rate is quoted per person, so friends, solo travellers and families each book their own.

The set is complete rather than stripped back: you choose from the premium lineup and are dressed by staff with a high-quality Nagoya obi, tabi socks, zori, a bag and hair ornaments, with a simple hair set included for women. Professional dressing is the part worth paying for, since an obi is awkward to tie on yourself and a slack one comes loose within an hour of walking. The shop is on the ground floor at 43-1 Takama-cho, a minute from Exit 7S of Kintetsu Nara Station.

Where you go afterwards is your own choice — nobody guides you. Nara Park is ten minutes on foot, home to more than a thousand wild sika deer, protected as messengers of the Shinto gods and designated a National Natural Treasure in 1957. Naramachi's Edo-period merchant streets sit between shop and park, and Kofukuji, Gangoji, Todaiji and Kasuga Taisha, whose 768 CE precinct is lined with donated lanterns, are all walkable in an afternoon in the city that was Japan's first permanent capital from 710. Photography is not included in rental plans, prices exclude consumption tax, and no return time is published — agree one with the shop. Because the operator lists yukata within its premium kimono range, confirm the exact garment when booking.
