Full description
This is a 3-hour experience in Nara. It is run by Lokafy, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Nara was Japan's first permanent capital, from 710 to 784, and its park holds Todai-ji, whose Great Buddha Hall is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and contains a 15-metre bronze Buddha cast in 752, Kasuga Taisha with its three thousand lanterns, and about 1,200 sika deer that are considered messengers of the gods and are protected. The deer bow for the shika senbei crackers sold in the park and will butt anyone who teases them. Nara is 45 minutes from Kyoto or Osaka by train and is a half-day; Todai-ji before 10:00 is the quiet hour.
The price covers guide and Customized private walking tour. It does not cover Entrance fees, Personal expenses, Tips/gratuities and Optional activity costs, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Lokafy sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Lokafy before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

We had a great outing with Ursula. She knew the area well and gave us a lovely tour. I would definitely recommend her as a tour guide to others visiting Nara.
We met our guide Eugene and we had a lovely walk around some of the main places to visit in Nara. Eugene took us to some places that had less tourists and we really enjoyed our trip out with him. Would definitely recommend.
Paul was a great guide, took us around Nara park to see the deers and temples. He even went out of his way to help us find a mochi maker there. Cheers!
Ina was great, she took me to beautiful and historic places. I enjoyed every second of my tour! I recommend it 100%.
My guide was awesome. She showed me so many beautiful and interesting places! I had so much fun with Ina! Thank you so much!
Our guide Eugene customized our tour. He was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a great time.
Andrew was a great guide who knows the history and culture of Nara. He was a pleasure to walk through the Naramachi with. It was a great way to start my adventures in Nara!
Unfortunately, the experience with the tourguide didn’t meet our expectations. The information was not apropiate
Nuestra guía Carolina muy linda, nos platicó muchos detalles de la cultura japonesa! Fueron unas horas muy a gusto con ella en donde aprendimos mucho! Caminamos por todos los puntos de la ciudad que queríamos ver!
The worst tour guide we've ever had! We've done eight guided tours during our stay in Japan. Our guide, Paul, provided little to no information on what we were seeing. For instance, we walked by a temple on our way to Nara Park and asked what one of the structures was for and he said, "Probably where the monks slept." All he did was talk about himself and his personal life. This is what he only talked about! Absoutely awful guide! All he did was snap a few photos and basically accompany us on the bus and through the park. We didn't need this, we wanted to learn about the culture and history. W
