Chitwan is Nepal's premier wildlife destination — a UNESCO-listed national park of dense sal forest, grasslands and rivers in the subtropical lowlands, and one of the best places in Asia to see greater one-horned rhinos in the wild.
With a local naturalist guide you'll head out on jeep safaris and dugout-canoe trips in search of rhinos, deer, crocodiles, birds and — if you're lucky — a Bengal tiger, then experience the culture of the indigenous Tharu people through village walks and traditional stick dances.

The best time to visit Chitwan is from October to March, when the weather is dry and pleasant and wildlife gathers near water sources. The cooler months also bring excellent birdwatching, while spring offers higher chances of tiger sightings.

Greater one-horned rhino sightings are very common — Chitwan has one of the largest populations in the world, and most multi-activity safaris encounter them. Tigers are present but elusive; sightings are a lucky bonus rather than a guarantee. You'll also reliably see deer, monkeys, crocodiles, and a huge variety of birds with a good naturalist guide.
Responsible operators have moved away from elephant-back safaris toward ethical alternatives — jeep safaris, canoe trips, guided jungle walks and visits to the elephant breeding centre. We focus on wildlife-watching that respects animal welfare; ask for the jeep and canoe-based itineraries.
Chitwan (Sauraha) is about 5–6 hours by road from Kathmandu or Pokhara, or a short domestic flight to Bharatpur followed by a 30-minute drive. Most visitors stay 2 nights to fit in a full range of safari activities. Guided packages can include transport and park permits.
