Tour Itinerary
The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.
Scenic Road Journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara, enjoying scenic views of Nepal’s hills, rivers, terraced fields, and countryside along the way. After arriving in Pokhara, settle into your hotel and prepare for the trek ahead. Depending on arrival time, you can explore the lakeside area or relax beside Phewa Lake while enjoying views of the surrounding hills and mountains.
Begin the Trek from Hemja Through Rural Mountain Trails
After breakfast, drive from Pokhara toward Hemja Milanchok, the starting point of the trek. Begin walking through peaceful rural settlements, cultivated hillsides, forests, and traditional villages. Continue toward Anante Thanti and Lalka, enjoying views of the surrounding foothills and gradually leaving the busier areas behind. Overnight at a local trekking lodge or teahouse.
Trek Through Rhododendron Forests Toward Khumai Danda
Continue trekking from Lalka toward Khumai Danda through quiet forest trails and changing mountain landscapes. The route passes through rhododendron and oak forests, open hillsides, and small settlements. As you gain elevation, the views become wider, with Machhapuchhre and surrounding Himalayan peaks becoming increasingly prominent. Reach Khumai Danda and enjoy the peaceful mountain environment before resting overnight.
Climb Higher from Khumai Danda Toward High Camp
Leave Khumai Danda and continue toward the higher elevations of the Machhapuchhre Base Camp route. The trail gradually becomes more rugged as dense vegetation gives way to open ridges and alpine surroundings. Take time to appreciate panoramic views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and nearby peaks. Reach High Camp and settle in for the night while preparing for the next day’s high-altitude trek.
Reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp Beneath Fishtail Mountain
Trek from High Camp toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp, following a scenic high-altitude trail surrounded by dramatic mountain terrain. As you approach the base camp, the landscape becomes increasingly rocky and alpine. Reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp at around 4,000 meters and enjoy spectacular views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, and the surrounding Himalayan range.
Descend from Machhapuchhre Base Camp Toward Pilicho Camp
After enjoying the high mountain surroundings, begin descending from Machhapuchhre Base Camp toward Pilicho Camp. The trail gradually moves into lower and more sheltered terrain, providing a noticeable change in scenery. Enjoy views of mountain ridges, valleys, and surrounding forests as you lose elevation. The descent is an opportunity to experience the landscape from a different perspective before reaching the next overnight camping or lodge location.
Walk Through Forests and Gurung Villages to Ghachok
Continue descending through forested trails and traditional mountain settlements toward Ghachok. The route becomes greener as the elevation decreases, with terraced fields, woodland, streams, and rural homes appearing along the way. Ghachok is a traditional Gurung settlement where you can experience the peaceful atmosphere of rural Nepal. Spend the evening resting and enjoying the surrounding village scenery.
Complete the Trek and Return from Hemja to Pokhara
Complete the trekking section by walking from Ghachok toward Hemja through lower-elevation countryside. After reaching Hemja, transfer by road to Pokhara. Back in the lakeside city, relax after the trek or explore the vibrant Lakeside area around Phewa Lake. Enjoy a comfortable evening in Pokhara and reflect on the mountain landscapes and villages experienced during the journey.
Travel from Pokhara Back to Kathmandu and Conclude the Trek
After breakfast, depart Pokhara and travel back to Kathmandu by road. The journey follows Nepal’s scenic hill highways, passing rivers, terraced farmland, villages, and mountain foothills. On arrival in Kathmandu, your Machhapuchhre Base Camp trekking adventure comes to an end. Depending on your onward travel schedule, you can continue to the airport or remain in Kathmandu for additional sightseeing and exploration.
