Tour Itinerary
The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.
Fly to Lukla (2,840 m) — Trek to Phakding (2,610 m)
Your day starts before sunrise with a scenic 30 to 40 minute flight to Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the world's most dramatic runways. From Lukla, walk gently downhill through pine forest along the Dudh Kosi to Phakding, crossing your first suspension bridges and breathing crisp Himalayan air (about 7 km, 3 to 4 hours). In peak seasons, flights often leave from Manthali/Ramechhap, a 4 to 5 hour drive with a 2:30 AM start; Women Adventures arranges a private jeep with the female team.
Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
Follow the Dudh Kosi valley across dramatic suspension bridges, including the high, prayer-flag-draped Hillary Bridge, to the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint at Monjo. Your female guide carries all the permits; just keep your passport handy. Then comes the first serious climb, a steep 830 m ascent to Namche taken at a deliberately slow pace. On a clear day, the ridge above Namche gives your first glimpse of Everest's summit (about 10 km, 5 to 6 hours).
Acclimatisation Day in Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
This day is about physiology: above about 3,000 m, your body needs time to adapt to thinner air. You practise "climb high, sleep low" with a morning hike to around 3,880 m, towards Hotel Everest View or Khumjung, then sleep back in Namche. Skipping it significantly raises the risk of AMS. In the afternoon, explore Namche's bakeries, gear shops and Sherpa Museum, and restock period and personal-care supplies, as this is the last reliable place before the high route.
Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery (3,860 m)
A day of contrasts. A scenic high traverse drops steeply to the Dudh Kosi, then climbs through rhododendron forest to the Tengboche ridge. The reward is the monastery framed by Ama Dablam, Everest and Nuptse, a view that silences even chatty groups. Founded in 1916, Tengboche is the largest monastery in the Khumbu, where Everest expeditions are blessed. Arrive in time for prayers and you may quietly attend (about 9.5 km, over 5 to 6 hours).
Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 m)
Today you leave the tree line behind for good. The trail descends to Deboche, crosses the Imja Khola and follows the widening valley up to Dingboche. The air is thinner now, the vegetation low and sparse, and the graceful spire of Ama Dablam dominates the sky for much of the walk. Above 4,000 m, afternoon cloud and wind are common even in clear seasons, so the day starts early to make the most of the morning views (about 9 km, 5 to 6 hours).
Acclimatisation Day in Dingboche (4,410 m)
Your second acclimatisation day, now at serious altitude. Hike up the Nagartsang ridge to about 5,000 m for huge views of Makalu, Lhotse, Island Peak and Ama Dablam, then sleep low in Dingboche. Rest, hydration and an early night matter as much as the hike. Headaches are common here; if one persists with nausea, dizziness or loss of appetite, rest, and descend if it worsens. From today, your guides run daily oxygen-saturation checks with pulse oximeters.
Dingboche to Lobuche (4,910 m)
The landscape turns stark as green valleys give way to the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. The trail isn't steep, but the altitude makes every step slower, and that is normal. Partway up, you pass Thukla Pass, a moving cluster of memorial cairns and prayer flags for climbers and trekkers lost in the Himalaya, a place to walk through quietly. The final approach to Lobuche is fairly flat, yet you will feel every metre (about 6.5 km, 5 hours).
Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,140 m) — Hike to Everest Base Camp
An early start crosses the moraine to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Base Camp. Drop your bags and continue over rocky glacial ground to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m. The view is of the Khumbu Icefall, not the summit, but standing where every Everest climb begins is what matters. In spring, it's a small city of expedition tents. Return to Gorak Shep for the night; lodges are basic, and the women-only group shares rooms where possible (about 12 km, 7 to 8 hours).
Kala Patthar Sunrise (5,545 m) — Trek to Pheriche (4,240 m)
The most spectacular day of the trek. Leave around 4:30 to 5:00 AM with headlamps for the cold climb up Kala Patthar. At sunrise, a 360-degree panorama reveals Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Changtse and Pumori, including the unobstructed view of Everest's summit that Base Camp can't offer. Afterwards, descend to Gorak Shep, collect your bags and walk down to Pheriche, where the richer air makes every step easier (about 17 km, 7 hours).
Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
The descent begins in earnest, and many women describe it as euphoric. As you lose altitude, your body and lungs feel the oxygen flood back, energy returns, and the trail you climbed slowly now passes quickly underfoot. It's a long but rewarding day, retracing the valley through the forests near Tengboche and back to Namche. In spring, the rhododendron blooms below Tengboche are spectacular (about 6 to 7 hours).
Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,840 m)
Your final trekking day follows the Dudh Kosi back to Lukla, retracing the trail of Day 1, but now full of achievement rather than nerves. In the evening, celebrate with a farewell dinner with the team, swapping stories as the "we actually did it" feeling sets in. Get an early night, as Lukla flights leave early and depend on the weather. Lukla teahouses fill quickly in peak season, so Women Adventures pre-books your room (about 6 to 7 hours).
Fly Lukla to Kathmandu/Ramechhap — Trek Concludes
An early morning flight takes you back to Kathmandu or Ramechhap. Mountain weather can shift flights, so stay flexible. On arrival, the trek formally concludes and you receive your Women Empowerment & Achievement Certificate. As this is a trek-only package, your Kathmandu hotel and sightseeing are self-arranged, or Women Adventures can manage them on request. Book onward flights no earlier than the day after Day 12, as Lukla weather delays of one to three days are common in peak season.
