Getting up at half four hurt, but the moment the sun hit Fishtail and turned it pink I forgot all about it. The driver picked us up right outside our Lakeside hotel and the whole thing felt calm and unhurried. No trekking, just a short stroll to the platform. Worth every bit of the early alarm.

A wonderfully efficient morning. The private vehicle was clean and warm, which mattered because it was genuinely cold up there before dawn. We had a clear view across the whole Annapurna range and down onto Phewa Lake. For thirty dollars this is honestly one of the best value experiences we had in Nepal.

Stunning views and a smooth pickup, no complaints there. My only heads-up is the viewpoint got fairly crowded with other groups by sunrise, so you have to angle around people for the best photos. Still, the panorama over the valley was breathtaking and the short walk up was easy enough for my parents.

We booked this on a whim the night before and it was the highlight of Pokhara. Watching Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South light up while the valley below was still in shadow is something I will not forget. The driver knew exactly where to stop for photos. Bring warm layers, it is chilly at the top.

Perfect little tour for anyone who does not want to trek. The car took us almost to the summit and then it was just a few minutes on foot. December mornings were crisp and completely cloud free, so the mountains looked razor sharp. We paid the small entry fee in cash at the top, which was easy to sort.

As a keen photographer this delivered exactly what I wanted. Arriving before first light let me set up for the changing colours as the sun rose over the Himalayas. The private setup meant I could take my time rather than being rushed back to the van. Phewa Lake in the distance was the perfect finishing touch.

Beautiful sunrise and a comfortable air-conditioned ride. Be aware the drive up is winding and quite early, which our kids found a bit much before breakfast. Once we were there though the views of the snow peaks made it all worthwhile, and the walk to the viewpoint was short and manageable for everyone.

Even in late spring with a little haze the experience was magical. The layers of mist over the valley slowly lifting to reveal the Annapurnas felt almost cinematic. Pickup from Lakeside was punctual and the guide was reassuring in the dark early hours. A gentle, accessible way to see the Himalayas without a hard hike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pickup is very early, typically around 4:30 to 5:00 AM from your hotel in Lakeside, so you reach the Sarangkot viewpoint before first light. The whole point is to be in position as the sun rises and paints the Annapurna Range gold, which happens shortly after dawn. Exact pickup time shifts slightly by season, and your guide will confirm it the evening before.
The experience runs about 3 hours in total, door to door. That includes the short drive up to Sarangkot, time at the viewpoint to enjoy sunrise and photos, and the return to your hotel. It is a relaxed, easy-going morning rather than a rushed schedule, so you have room to soak in the panorama and take your pictures.
No strenuous trekking is required, which is exactly what makes this tour so popular. A private A/C tourist vehicle drives you almost all the way up to the viewpoint at 1,600 meters. There is only a short, gentle walk of a few minutes from the parking area to the main viewing platform, over some steps and paved paths.
This is a private tour with your own dedicated air-conditioned tourist vehicle. You will not be sharing the ride with strangers, so pickup, pace and photo stops revolve around your group. It is a comfortable, personal way to experience the Sarangkot sunrise, especially with an early start.
The Sarangkot Sunrise option is priced at $30 and includes your private A/C tourist vehicle with hotel pickup in Lakeside and return. It covers the round-trip transport and your time at the viewpoint. Any personal expenses, tips, or optional hot tea at the summit stalls are not included.
Sarangkot has a small local viewpoint entry fee that visitors pay on site. The listed $30 option covers your private transport and pickup rather than the modest ticket, so bring a little Nepali cash for the entrance. It is only a few hundred rupees and is paid directly at the top.
On a clear morning you get sweeping views of the Annapurna Range, with peaks like Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri catching the first light. You will also look down over the Pokhara Valley and the calm waters of Phewa Lake. Visibility depends on the weather, but early mornings offer the clearest skies.
The clearest mountain views usually come between October and April, with autumn and winter offering crisp, cloud-free mornings. The monsoon months of June to September can bring haze and cloud that occasionally hide the peaks. That said, sunrise over the valley is atmospheric year-round, and mist can add its own drama.
Mornings at 1,600 meters are chilly even in warmer seasons, so dress in warm layers, including a jacket, and add a hat and gloves in winter. Comfortable shoes help for the short walk to the viewpoint. Bring your camera, a little cash for the entry fee and tea, and perhaps a small flashlight for the pre-dawn arrival.
Yes. Because there is no demanding trek and the vehicle drives most of the way up, this tour works well for families with children and for older travelers. The only effort is a short walk to the platform. The main consideration is the very early wake-up, so plan an early night beforehand.
It is one of the best sunrise photography spots in Pokhara. The light on the Annapurna peaks, the layered valley below and Phewa Lake in the distance make for stunning shots. Arriving before dawn lets you set up for the changing colors as the sun climbs, so bring a fully charged camera or phone and a spare battery for the cold.
The drive from Lakeside up to Sarangkot is short, roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on road conditions and your hotel location. The final stretch is winding and uphill, but your private A/C vehicle keeps it comfortable. This easy access is a big part of why the tour is so appealing compared to a full trek.
Absolutely. Many travelers pair the sunrise with an adrenaline activity later in the day, since Sarangkot is also a launch point for adventure sports. A popular choice is Pokhara: Tandem Paragliding with Annapurna Views, which lets you soar over Phewa Lake with the same mountain backdrop. Just leave a gap after your early morning to rest.
Sarangkot is beautiful even under cloud, with mist drifting through the valley, so the tour typically runs as planned. Mountain visibility can never be guaranteed on any given morning. If you are chasing peak clarity, book across a season like autumn or winter and, where possible, choose a morning with a promising forecast.
You can reserve directly through AsiaByLocals by selecting the Sarangkot Sunrise option at $30 and providing your Lakeside hotel details for pickup. Once confirmed, we will share your exact early-morning pickup time. If your plans change, contact us in advance about the cancellation terms so we can help adjust your booking.
