Full description

Ella is small, its sights are scattered over a few kilometres, and the roads between them are narrow and steep. A tuk-tuk covers the lot in three hours, which is why this is the trip people take on an arrival afternoon or a departure morning rather than as a full day.

The route takes in the viewpoints above the town, Ella station and the start of the railway walk, Ravana Falls and the cave above it, a tea factory, the secret waterfall down an unmarked track, and the Nine Arch Bridge. It does not include Little Adam's Peak or Ella Rock — those are walks and they need a morning of their own.

What a tuk-tuk buys you here is the roads. The lanes above Ella are steep, narrow and full of switchbacks, and being open-sided at that height and speed is most of the pleasure. Your driver is also the guide, and in a town this size that usually means someone who grew up on these slopes.

Three hours, private, and it fits either end of a day.

Go in the morning if you have the choice. Ella sits at about 1,000 metres against the escarpment and the cloud typically builds through the afternoon, which closes the viewpoints and the Ella Gap that the whole route is built around. At the Nine Arch Bridge your driver works from the day's actual train movements rather than the printed timetable — the trains are routinely late and the bridge is only worth waiting at if one is genuinely coming.

Activity was perfect. Chanaka was very flexible and changed the itinerary to suit my needs as I did not want to do all the activities. Comfortable car and weather was not great so better than a Tuk Tuk in this case. I would highly recommend

This is the best tour to book when traveling to Ella. Our driver, Chanaka did an excellent job. We did not feel like guests, but much more, like friends. He shared interesting stories about life in Srí Lanka while showing the highlights of Ella customized to our needs.

We enjoyed Ella so much. We had a very comfortable car and went to Adam’s Peak, Ravana, Nine Arch Bridge then had lunch in a place with a wonderful view. Then went to 2 waterfalls and even swim in one of them, amazing experience. We ended our trip at the Helpa tea factory that I think is a must visit. The guide was very pleasant and took the time to stay with us as much as we wanted, to see and try everything. I can only recommend him to anyone who wants to visit Ella in one day without thinking about the route!
