Full description

Please note before booking: the Department of Wildlife Conservation has closed Blocks 1 and 2 of Yala National Park from 14 September to 15 October 2026 because of drought, so safaris in those blocks cannot run on those dates. Blocks 3 to 6 stay open, and Udawalawe and Wilpattu are unaffected — for travel inside that window we will contact you to move the safari to one of those parks or to a date after 15 October. Udawalawe is the stronger park for elephants; Wilpattu has the quieter leopard sightings.

Yala lies southeast of Ella on the road to the coast, which is why the transfer day is the right day to do it. This is the shared version, which brings the price down to a fraction of the private equivalent for the same park and the same hours.

Block 1 holds the highest recorded density of leopards anywhere on earth. It also holds, on a busy morning in season, around three hundred jeeps. Both facts are true and you should book knowing both: this is the most likely place in the world to see a wild leopard, and it is not a wilderness.

The rest of the park is underrated. Sloth bears are here and are harder to see than leopards, which makes them the better sighting. Elephants, water buffalo, mugger crocodiles, and over two hundred bird species including a heavy winter migration.

The dawn drive is the one that works. Animals move at first light and shelter by nine, and by eleven the park is jeeps and heat.

After the drive it is about two hours to the coast, so you arrive in the early afternoon with the day still usable.

We had an absolutely fantastic day! The pick-up and transfer overall was very smooth and reliable. The safari itself was absolutely amazing thanks to our experienced guide Srimal. He was not only fun but he knows exactly how to behave around the animals and how to spot them. As he really knows his way around the park we were able to see one leopard, many many elephants and all sorts of other animals. I highly recommend this tour and especially the tour guide Srimal.

I was picked up from the hotel at around 3 AM, and then it was a two-hour drive to Yala. The safari lasted about five hours, from 6 to 11 AM. I arrived in Ella between 2 and 3 PM. Both the driver and the safari guide were excellent. The pickup and drop-off time were arranged via WhatsApp the night before.

What an amazing day, being picked up in Ella just to be so lucky and see so many different animals, super amazed by leopards. To later being dropped off in Matara and finish the day with a beach sunset. Couldn’t be happier.

We started at 2.30am from Ella with a really nice car and arrived couple hours later to Yala. At Yala i was picked up to safari and after we collected few other people also, we drove inside the Yala park to see animals during the sunrise. We saw leopard, elephants, crocodile and plenty of other animals also. And like that would have not been enough, after we took a less than 2 hour ride to Mirissa and still had a whole afternoon and evening to enjoy the beach. Just a perfect day.
