Tour Itinerary

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Island Arrival & Golden Sunset Welcome

Your Sri Lankan journey begins with a warm tropical welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport. A short coastal transfer brings you to the laid-back beach town of Negombo. Here, swaying palms, golden sands, and fishing boats create your first island impression. The day is designed for pure relaxation and gentle introduction to island life.

Cross-Island Passage to the East Coast (Trincomalee)

You embark on a scenic cross-country drive to Trincomalee, witnessing Sri Lanka’s changing landscapes from lush villages to open countryside. This journey reveals authentic local life far from tourist paths. The coastal arrival rewards you with calm beaches and turquoise waters. It’s a transition from west coast charm to east coast serenity.

Sacred Cliffs, Coral Waters & Colonial Echoes

Today you uncover spiritual and historic treasures at Koneswaram Temple, dramatically perched above the ocean cliffs. You continue to the colonial-era Fort Frederick, where history meets tropical scenery. Later, you dive into crystal-clear waters for snorkeling or beach relaxation. The day blends sacred culture with ocean tranquility.

Lost Kingdoms & Wild Elephant Encounters (Polonnaruwa)

You step back in time at Polonnaruwa, exploring the majestic ruins of Polonnaruwa Ancient City. Stone temples, giant Buddhas, and royal remains tell stories of a powerful ancient civilization. In the afternoon, nature takes over at Minneriya National Park, where wild elephants roam freely in vast herds. It’s a rare fusion of heritage and wilderness.

Lion Rock Rise & Rural Village Immersion (Sigiriya)

You ascend the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress in Sigiriya, climbing through ancient stairways and fresco-lined walls. At the summit, sweeping jungle panoramas stretch endlessly beneath you. Later, you experience rural village life through traditional encounters and authentic cuisine. This day captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s cultural soul.

Sacred Relics & Royal Heritage Journey (Kandy)

You visit the mystical cave artistry of Dambulla Cave Temple before arriving in the cultural heart of Kandy. The revered Temple of the Tooth Relic reveals deep spiritual traditions. As evening falls, vibrant dance performances bring local folklore to life. This day is rich in devotion, heritage, and artistry.

Emerald Highlands & Tea Garden Trails (Nuwara Eliya)

You ascend into misty green mountains toward Nuwara Eliya, where tea plantations blanket rolling hills. A tea factory visit reveals the craftsmanship behind world-famous Ceylon tea. Cool air, colonial architecture, and tranquil lakes define the atmosphere. It’s a refreshing contrast to tropical coastal regions

Cloud Train Ride & Misty Mountain Escape (Ella)

You journey by iconic train into Ella, passing cinematic landscapes of waterfalls and tea fields. The famous Nine Arches Bridge offers postcard-perfect views. Light hikes like Little Adam’s Peak reveal sweeping valleys at sunset. This day is pure visual poetry and mountain serenity.

Tropical Descent to Ocean Bliss (Mirissa)

You descend to the southern shores of Mirissa, where golden beaches and relaxed rhythms take over. The ocean breeze and palm-lined coast invite full relaxation. Beach cafés and soft sands define your slow-paced afternoon. It’s a peaceful recharge after mountain adventures.

Ocean Giants & Sunset Coast Serenity

You set out early for a thrilling whale watching expedition in Mirissa’s deep blue waters. Blue whales and dolphins may appear in their natural habitat, creating unforgettable moments. The afternoon allows time for beach relaxation or scenic viewpoints like Coconut Tree Hill. It’s a perfect balance of excitement and calm.

Colonial Fort Farewell & Journey Home (Galle)

You explore the historic charm of Galle Fort, where cobblestone streets and ocean walls tell centuries of colonial history. Boutique cafés and artisan shops line the fortress. Finally, you travel to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure. It’s a graceful ending to a diverse island journey.

Time it for a puja — 5.30am, 9.30am or 6.30pm. Those are the only windows when the upper relic chamber opens and the hevisi drummers play; outside them you are visiting a beautiful building rather than a ceremony. Take socks: shoes come off at the gate and the stone courtyard gets painfully hot. Full detail in our Temple of the Tooth guide.
February for the clearest weather, or July-August, which is drier here than most people expect and covers the Esala Perahera. Kandy sits between Sri Lanka's *two* monsoons and catches some of both, so it has no long dry season — but it also never has a season that is a write-off. See best time to visit Kandy.
Reserved seats open 30 days ahead and sell out within hours from December to March. Unreserved 2nd/3rd class is sold on the day and always available — you will stand, which is where the open doorways and the famous photographs are. Sit on the right-hand side going south. Note there is no Nuwara Eliya station; the stop is Nanu Oya, 10 km away. See our Kandy to Ella train guide.
July or August — but the dates move every year with the lunar calendar, so any guide naming a fixed week is guessing. It runs ten nights and ends on the Nikini poya. Book accommodation on the route six to twelve months ahead. Details in our Esala Perahera guide.
Sigiriya and Dambulla (2.5 hrs each way) is the best of them. Kitulgala rafting is 2 hrs, the Knuckles range and Pekoe Trail stages are day hikes from here. Ella, Galle and Yala are *too far* — 4-6 hours each way. See day trips from Kandy.
Two nights. One full day for the town — Bahirawakanda, Peradeniya gardens, the lake and the evening puja — and a second for a hike, a village day or the cultural triangle. Our Kandy 2-day itinerary lays it out hour by hour.
The centre and the lake circuit are walkable. For anything up a hill or out of town, take a tuk-tuk — roughly LKR 100-150/km on the meter, and ride-hailing apps price it automatically with no negotiation. See getting around Kandy.
