C'est la version groupe de la grande excursion depuis Kandy, et le prix le reflete, vous partagez un van avec jusqu'a une douzaine d'autres personnes, ce qui ramene le cout a une fraction de l'equivalent prive pour le meme itineraire.

La matinee va vers le nord a travers Matale, s'arretant au temple hindou Sri Muthumariamman avec son gopuram peint, un jardin d'epices ou la cannelle et la cardamome poussent dans la meme parcelle, et un atelier de sculpture sur bois du genre que Matale possede depuis des generations.

Les cinq grottes de Dambulla suivent, peintes du sol au plafond, environ 150 images de Bouddha, fraiches apres le trajet. Puis Sigiriya, la citadelle du cinquieme siecle sur le rocher, avec les jardins d'eau, les fresques du mur miroir et le sommet.

Le safari cloture la journee. La fin d'apres-midi a Minneriya ou dans un parc voisin est le moment ou les elephants descendent vers le reservoir, et en saison seche le rassemblement y est l'une des plus grandes concentrations d'elephants d'Asie sauvages au monde.

Une visite en groupe signifie des horaires fixes et attendre le grimpeur le plus lent, ce qui est l'echange honnete pour le prix. Si cela compte, les versions privees de cette meme journee sont aussi proposees.

Sigiriya est une colonne rocheuse de 200 metres qui s'eleve au-dessus de la plaine de la zone seche, sur laquelle le roi Kasyapa a construit son palais au cinquieme siecle apres avoir usurpe le trone, et c'est un site de l'UNESCO depuis 1982. L'ascension compte environ 1 200 marches sur des escaliers et passerelles en fer, passant par le mur miroir avec ses graffitis millenaires et la galerie abritee de fresques, jusqu'aux pattes du lion qui donnent son nom au rocher et aux fondations du palais au sommet. Cela prend une heure et demie aller-retour pour la plupart des gens et il vaut mieux commencer a 7h00, avant la chaleur et les autocars; le ticket pour les visiteurs etrangers est l'un des plus chers du pays, et Pidurangala, le rocher voisin, offre la vue classique sur Sigiriya pour une fraction du prix.

It was fantastic; our driver, Ravish, was very kind and helped us with everything—by the end of the day, we had become friends. We visited so many wonderful places, and Ravish shared a lot of interesting information with us. In the end, we chose the Eco Elephant Park—it was great. There weren’t many tourists, and we saw at least 25 elephants up close. We even saw a pregnant elephant and a baby elephant just a few months old. We highly recommend it to everyone—it was wonderful.

I had an amazing day with Shanuka! He made me feel incredibly well taken care of and looked after as a solo female traveler. He planned a great day for us and adjusted it based on what I wanted to do. He made sure all my needs were met throughout the day. And the elephant safari was INCREDIBLE! We saw so many! I highly recommend!

I had an absolutely incredible tour yesterday with Shanuka! 🙌 As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time. He is so caring and thoughtful, he drove me to all the highlights, stopped whenever I needed something, treated me with fresh coconut and even brought me to a fantastic spot for lunch. We managed to see so much in just one day, and it was truly a pleasure to spend the day with him. Shanuka is not only professional but also very sweet and kind. I had a really nice experience with my driver Ruwan. He made sure I feel good and took really nice care of me. He also guided me in Dumballa cave Temple and on our way back we stopped in a spices farm, which was very nice. I reccomend 👌.

Polonnaruwa if you have one morning — compact, cyclable in three hours, and the Gal Vihara is the finest sculpture in the country. Unreserved 2nd/3rd class is sold on the day and always available — you will stand, which is where the open doorways and the famous photographs are. Sit on the right-hand side going south.
